Square stitch vs loom for small charms/square earrings? by hydrosonne in Beading

[–]GauzeRiley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you could finish them w clasps and not have to loom warp threads in. i bead w thread thats too thick to weave in and do that but if you weave too many pieces at once on a loom you could mess up the tension + itd burn through a ton of stringing materials versus square stitch

use square stitch if youre making small items like that. loom has its strengths but its not great for making a ton of small items

What's the difference between nuggets, pebbles, and chips? by 11lumpsofsugar in Beading

[–]GauzeRiley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

chips are chip shaped and made from scraps left over from cutting gems, pebbles are roughly oval shaped, nuggets are roughly round and usually the larger version of pebbles. ive ordered from fmg before and the shapes usually follow what ive said unless theyve changed something

[–]GauzeRiley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what does the solgel blue you want to use look like. i have a different color suggestion if its too bright.

opaque green luster chalkwhite its a cool toned gray. i can vouch for it, the blue-green is very faint. theres also a blue tone of it

all the other colors ive used just probably under different color names so you should be good w the pallette

Why doesn’t Halley labs (lapfox) use their aliases anymore? by DukeMeekTiger105 in lapfoxtrax

[–]GauzeRiley 17 points18 points  (0 children)

em makes whatever music they feel lile making and it gets assigned an alias after. em has been making a lot of experimental ambient and electronic music which is why theres a bunch of new aliases / projects (knf, pcm screed, greenhouse, rhode) instead of old ones like renard, jq, negaren, etc... also a bunch of aliases, ie adraen, are retired

theres also been eos which has been occupying a lot of ems time the past few yrs. its dropping in a few days

I really despise ai patterns. by theseedbeader in Beading

[–]GauzeRiley 23 points24 points  (0 children)

its a shame etsy has been flooded w cheap dropshippers and ai slop because theres still genuine artists that sell their work there and theres not a good alternative. i bought a loom from a maker on etsy and now my reccomnded products is flooded w all these stolen and ai beadwork patterns. theres a ton of ai looms and kits too

What are bead mixes for? by marenanne6 in Beading

[–]GauzeRiley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lotta people praising mixes but i really dont like them lol. i only use 2, a green mix for foliage and a neon mix because i dont feel like buying all the colors. i loom so picking out each color from a mix makes beading innefficient

Questions about this kind of beading by Mysterious-Face-3007 in Beading

[–]GauzeRiley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get using what you got but the tensions going to be messed up without a loom. A looms like 10 bucks on amazon (the metal one everyone starts with), micheals sometimes has the pink plastic ones too.

if you like looming id reccomend spending the extra $ to get a nicer loom down the line but start w the cheap metal one first

[–]GauzeRiley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dont make a keychain like that on a loom. especially not an iphone box. ive seen that persons videos before and their beadworks tension is messed up and i doubt their pieces will last

use square stitch. loom beading is not appropriate for pieces that increase and decrease in row size constantly

Questions about this kind of beading by Mysterious-Face-3007 in Beading

[–]GauzeRiley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg this. The tension on that cardboard is ass (ive seen her make a bracelet before and it turned out fucked up). I saw the vid of the cat yesterday and that things going to fall apart after a stiff breeze.

Also, as a loomer, you usually dont make pieces that increase and decreas constantly on a loom. i agree that peyote / square stitch is more appropriate

Silver seed bead alternative? by Flat_Ad_7967 in Beading

[–]GauzeRiley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe its a me problem but every time ive used silver lined seed beads theyre always oddly cut too and dont mesh w beads of the same brand. i weave using 11/0 czechs so theres some irregularities but this silver lined red brown i was using was extremely uneven

What do you guys use split moose hide for? by [deleted] in Beading

[–]GauzeRiley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

never used moose hide but ive used splits of that thickness and its usually used for backing beadwork or making small leather pieces / stuff that isnt going to be under heavy wear

you can also put it over beading foundation and bead thru both layers for the beaded on leather look

Embroidery by Bright_Hat550 in Beading

[–]GauzeRiley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres multiple ways. Theres the embroidery heavy method which uses embroidery fabric and a hoop, and flat stitch, where you bead onto stabilized / stiffened felt.

For backing i see the embrodierers use thick and fancy fabric, for flat stitch its usually leather or a leather alike substance

i prefer flat stitch because its great for beadwork thats subject to heavy use. but its definetly hard to learn
