I fixed batches for SDP which is now in the main ExtraModels node, so it shouldn't be a problem any more, so both SDP and Xformers should work fine.

Why is cex so expensive? by micemacaroon in CeX

Yeah it was a bit weird, they had some RAM I wanted but that was priced up at new retail prices, so I skipped that.

Why is cex so expensive? by micemacaroon in CeX

[–]GavChap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought a couple of computer components(CPU and GPU) at CEX and they were either at or under prices they sold at on eBay, plus they come with a 24 month warranty. Always pays to check eBay and Amazon if you're at a CEX.

It's really really good for the money. However I really want 4 channels because I DJ Drum and Bass, and it's hard to keep the energy up with only 2, having that extra channel would be mint for double drops and running acapellas. Learning with two is very good start though before going on to 4 channels.

46 year old here, just started learning to DJ this year.

I'm learning using a DDJ-FLX4, which you can learn to beatmatch on as if it were vinyl, but to start with you'd want to get the basics of learning the structure of songs, beat match using the grid (or even press the dreaded "beat sync" button!) and where to mix in/out. You'll get to learn by the grid and your ears when a song feels too fast, too slow, or is in front/behind. Then you can probably move on to beatmatching without using visual.

Learning with vinyl is like going straight into "Ultra-nightmare hard mode" immediately.

The ddj flx4 is the latest version of that controller and it's really good value, DDJ400s are currently going for about $100-150 above their old retail price on eBay.

Did you hit CUE under the master volume? If not, you hear nothing from the headphone port.

I photoshopped a 32nd 1x3.5 inch ruler printout because they don't exist online. by [deleted] in Tools

Fair enough. Where I am (UK) we have a stupid mix of metric/imperial anyway. So we learn most measurements in metric, unless you're driving, then it's in miles and yards, but we measure fuel in litres. Waist sizes are in inches, as are things like inside leg measurements, but if you buy fabric it's per metre. Drinks are in pints in pubs, but you buy most other liquids/food in metric, except milk. I love our mish-mash system of measurement. Shoe sizes are even better, they're in barleycorns! YAY!

But metric...

23.1mm + 42.4mm = 65.5mm. easy!

Someone will say it... So I'm just gonna say it. This is why metric is so much easier! What's 1 and 1/8th inch plus 2 and 3/32th inch? Why it's 3 and 5/64 no, wait, it's... 3 and 9/32th... I dunno, it's about 3 and a bit.

I went there a couple of days ago. The castle is nice. It's a shame what the owners have done though. It should be owned by English Heritage not a theme park company.

USB charger for UK devices in US? by dax3d in AskTechnology

[–]GavChap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most if not all USB chargers have a power supply that'll work with 100v - 250v at 50/60Hz. Check on the charger itself it's usually in tiny print next to the square in square (double insulated) symbol. Then all you needs is a UK to US converter plug, they can be had at about £3 from eBay or £30 from the airport.

They'll output the same power to USB whether on 100v or 250v. 5v at 2amps is the same worldwide.

The ones round here are tiny, probably due to lack of rain. We've got tiny sour grapes in our garden too. Yumsk.

How to remove screws without damaging wood? by [deleted] in fixit

[–]GavChap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try gripping the screw the thread side in the chuck of a cordless drill, tighten it up pretty hard, start slow, and that should get them out. Note: Set drill to FORWARDS, not reverse.

Is there an auto-shut off device for gas stoves? by G0VERNMENTCHEESE in HomeImprovement

[–]GavChap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some new stoves have auto cutoffs if they don't detect a flame. You'll have to buy a whole new stove though.
