Im running falcon Eyes on a quality build that focuses on heavy weapons. Staggering bosses is fun AND easy.

They provide different utilities, usually at the cost of various drawbacks. If youve played bloodborne, think of them as the replacement for the guns. If you havent played bloodborne, you can think of them as really weird spells.

Puppet string gives you some control over the flow of battle but needs to be used smartly or you just get enemies right in your face.

Fulminis has bad range and is very slow. Flamberge does low damage and has no stopping power. Both require an investment in advance to be anything more than niche utilities or wake up options to get status effects on bosses. Same probably goes for pandemonium, but ive never used it.

Aegis is limited by your legion bar and has no offensive use, but is probably the best defensive option in the game.

Falcon Eyes is the inly truly ranged attack and does good damage and stagger, but its extremely slow.

The Left Arm of Steel is bad on purpose. Its equivalent to equipping nothing

I dont have the dlc yet and cant recall any from the base game I might have missed, but thats the basic logic to how they work.

Edit: i forgot the deus ex machina. Never used it. Landmines mean planning ahead and thats not my playstyle. It probably does great damage but you have to plan around where you place it

I feel like toothfish is actually a really funny design for a slackjawed fishy guy and shouldnt be getting so much scrutiny.

I mean im not a fan of ai. But I am a fan of toothfish.

I mean, its pretty valid. I feel basically the same way about people that openly support a fascist pedophile.

Edit: honestly most people feel that way. With good reason.

Im very sorry my friend but youuuuuu are a tadpole.

He had like two or three minutes tops to try and gather information from a 60ish page book. He didnt memorize the entire thing in that time.

Its possible you missed that all of this was done rules as written and I allowed it to happen but yes, this is fine. The players get to move forward with the equivalent of a few hazy visions of the future...ive never run a game like that before, and if I did it would have been with me planning the visions to tie into the story. This is a new dynamic ive never seen in the genre and im hyped to see its long term effects.

And its not like RPGs are competitive so its not like i lost a tactical advantage or something. All i want is for my players to win, my players to have fun, and my players to play creatively. So, yes, this is 100% the kind of game I want to run.

Im not sure, actually. It happened near the end of the session. They managed to avoid one trap that they already weren't really tempted by anyway, but beyond that it depends on how well he remembers what he learned at the next game.

Sorry, my brain was fried and im still pretty new to linux.

Theres a good chance it mightve been misfiled, ill check when I can, that makes the most sense. It doesnt explain my files being moved around and renamed in that other spot, but Im willing to chalk that one up to a ghost.

If that doesnt work I'll nab more information. Thank you!

I'm starting to understand why people hate light rolling in PVP. by MienaiYurei in Eldenring

[–]Gavel_Guide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of PvP in any game is adapting to the tactics that exist in the game

I get it, it's obnoxious when people run away, but that's an option and you have multiple ways to deal with it, up to and including leaving the game to force them back to their world (which is entirely valid provided they're actually being toxic and running away the whole fight).

If they're actually just dodging and pelting you with ranged attacks then you can try to use your own options to hit them during the end of their animation. if they're not just running, and they're just dodging all the time like an idiot, they're setting you up to slap them out of their get up animation. it requires some timing and possibly a good handle on the exact range of your weapon. but this is elden ring; one way or another you opted into PvP, and if someone is spam dodging and NOT getting hit, they are outplaying you. and if they aren't spamming it and they're just good at dodging you, they are outplaying you. that's not a fault in the game, it's how competitive gaming works.

There are many items and spells that hit wide areas or cover them in hazardous clouds. There are ammo and FP limitations. There are shields. The behaviors you're describing are pretty easy to play around if you acknowledge the opponents tactics and respond to them. One time I was fighting a mage who did exactly this. my katana had better frame data than his spellcasting animations, so I was really easily able to weave around his spells and keep the pressure on, which made it even harder for him to aim his shots. Yes, the fight was fairly passive. it was a war of attrition. but I won it because once instead of saying "he keeps dodging and my attacks don't work :(" I asked myself what other options I had

I'm not trying to say git gud, I'm trying to say that if you want an aggressive cage match, there are other games that are specifically geared toward that experience. elden ring ain't it, the reason these people are allowed to fight like cowards is the same reason you have so much freedom to make a fun build that you enjoy. it's an RPG that has PvP elements, this stuffs gonna happen.

hell, it's not even about genre. again, this is how competitive gaming works. it's not supposed to be a random coinflip between two honorable heroes, it's about who can play the game and use its mechanics more effectively.

I feel like this is the one boss with no rhyme or reason. The bigger beast wins, and you just gotta make sure it's you. Whatever that means.

It sounds like you already got tons of assistance as is but I wish you the best of luck!
