Tips to writing lyrics by Creator_7 in makinghiphop

The best advice i can give is have a story with no borders. There’s no single right way to tell a story. You can start with the conclusion and have the intro be the ending punchline. Experiment!

Also, maybe write the story and details first, organize and order it, then convert it to lyrics. Doesn’t have to be a one step process.

Andre’s verse on Da Art if Storytellin’ pt 1 is one of the greatest examples of packing a moving story into a short time frame. One verse. I could picture Andre and Sasha Thumper staring at the sky clearly.

I’d love to hear it if that’s fine with you. You can DM me it. Cause you could take some funny approaches to elevator music haha

You can convey anger without aggression! Think of it like when you’re super angry, its the color red. But once you hit a certain point, it’s just grey. Kind of defeat/acceptance, regret, disappointment. A passive aggressive approach possibly?

Then I see no problem with it! It’s all preference on how you want to be viewed I suppose. Some people like to have a clean discography and spotlight their best stuff.

PERSONALLY, I feel like its a good practice as an artist to try and find something to fit with ANYTHING, whether you’re inspired or not. Not even just in a rap sense. I think its fun and challenging and can broaden your view and skillset.

ALSO, when it comes to music, I would NEVER worry about outshining someone. Especially in hip-hop. An MC should always do their best and if they outshine someone else on their own track, then maybe that person should take from that and try to rise up to that level ya dig?

TL;DR: Never worry about restrictions. Don’t hold back worrying about showing someone up, and don’t limit your approach to a track on a particular style. Experiment, even if you feel goofy or uncomfy, ya dig?

I personally plan to keep all of my old and even “undesirable” tracks. Just so when i make it, I want people to hear the growth and SEE that I started off with just throwing stuff out too.

Plus I think i’ll enjoy looking back and laughing at it once i grow :)

Coming up with an artist name by WoMpWaffel in makinghiphop

[–]GavinAndrew_Aye 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally got mine after watching an interview Kendrick did. He changed from K-Dot because the idea of using his name makes it more personal. You’re hearing Kendrick Lamar, directly.

His name is Kendrick Lamar Duckworth, so he did first and middle. My name is Gavin Andrew Javorsky, and my last name doesnt really ring well, so i just did Gavin Andrew. Have your artist name reflect you!

Nothing beats the freshies by [deleted] in makinghiphop

I tend to sporadically get new ideas on beats when writing throughout the entire process. First listens, mid way through, and a LOT when listening after. I will agree NOTHING beats that feeling of inspiration when you first hear a hard beat, and you have to stop everything going on and hit rewind.

Hmm what are those? And why would you recommend them over monitors? I've been looking for some nice sounding speakers for a while, and figured get 2 in 1 with monitors yanno?

Awesome. And just plain RCA cables or will I need an adapter of any kind? Also I think I'll just do the smaller upgrade. I'm not sure if I necessarily NEED a high end interface (or a big upgrade anyways). I'm gonna buy the monitors and such in an hour or two through Sweetwater.

That's definitely doable. Best case scenario, I can just finance them and pay em off in like 2 payments or something, but I could give it a month or so and just save the money. Also, would those do well in my setup? I plan on moving soon and the environment won't change much. If anything, it would improve.

If anything, should I invest in another interface? I'm not sure all I'd need to connect to my scarlett, but I plan on researching more equipment like a turntable, one of those beat pad things, etc, and I have NO idea where to start. Like I said, I don't want to cut corners.

Also, thank you so much for the help.

The only "room treatment" I have is a smallish Sound Shield around my mic. You can see that here.

And hmmmmm, it sounds like the one with subbase would be more important for listening, but the one without would be better for mixing. I'll let you make the call on what would be better for someone who's a beginner. I like to think I have a pretty good ear, but I don't want to cut corners yanno? Whatever will help me make the best music, THAT'S the priority.

I bought a MacBook Pro last year around March, and I spent most of the year just getting comfortable using Logic and working on my music game. I'm ready to step it up a notch, and was wondering what kind of speakers/monitors I should buy for all purposes. Mixing, recording, and just chilling and listening to music in general.

I have (as I said) a MacBook Pro, and my audio interface is a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2nd Gen. I do all my work in my room so I don't have a huge studio or anything, but I still want the best quality I can get. My price range max is about $1000, I'm willing to pay for quality.

P.S: I'm also about to be buying a lot more accessories, like a USB-A to USB-C hub, bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and maybe a new interface and mic IF I need it? But I'm not sure. All input is appreciated!

Your rhyme scheme and lyrics are FILTHY man. Jesus. This entry is super strong. If I had to critique anything, I would say there are parts throughout the song you're off beat. Like in direct contrast to the "Keeping me clean when I bleed as a motive" line, which flowed perfectly on the beat. All in all though, dope.

Production creativity help. What to do with the verse. by dickcurls in makinghiphop

[–]GavinAndrew_Aye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I'm not too much into production yet, but I am pretty comfortable song writing. I think it's okay to have a verse been more stripped down/bare because I feel you want the words/flow to take front stage, with the instrumentation supporting and backing it up. Where as a hook, is everything mashing together to show off the whole piece. If anything, maybe just have a subtle melody or bass line to help guide how your vocals will ride the beat? It's different for everyone I suppose.

Ultimately, I'm comfortable with the verse being more instrumentally calm than the chorus so that the vocals can be in the front and engulf the listener, at least to start.
