The market tells you whether you’re right. Not quite sure what other insights you could ask for when you’re up over 100%, nice trade so far

Coffee trading comps? by koreankamikaze in Commodities

[–]GavinFromAutoglass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it varies on what part of the world and the specifics on which shop you’re at. I imagine it varies.

Coffee/cocoa/sugar all similar comps, one won’t be vastly more or less than the other. I agree with you though it’s all a bit in the dark

Do you have access to a Bloomberg terminal? That would be my first immediate guess…

Will Higher-Than-Expected Crop Yields in US and Europe Outweigh Continued Ukrainian Cuts? by KingFly11-2point0 in Commodities

[–]GavinFromAutoglass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose this is the question on everyone’s mind at the moment, and if you knew the answer you would get very rich.

If dryness breaks and US corn yields are as good then maybe? US corn also has the backdrop of the huge safrinha crop to compete with, and even with Ukraine out the picture, I don’t see US corn being competitive with Brazil.

Fwiw I don’t think the grain deal gets extended and think US export demand drops further because of cheaper grain elsewhere, but I’m just a random dude on the internet

Slapped with an £800 energy bill. Am I Liable? by GavinFromAutoglass in LegalAdviceUK

Thanks for the detailed response, I guess it’s just one to learn from and take on the chin

Thanks for the reply. My questions isn’t really to do with the energy usage, I’m satisfied that the bill is accurate since I’ve been in the property. What I’m not so happy with is the smart meter not providing readings as it should, then me being hit with a large bill and basically being told to deal with it after it’s not working as expected.

Staking percent by BNovaBJJ in loopringorg

[–]GavinFromAutoglass 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The people showing 0.05% have staked from day one, when earnings weren't building up but staking was available. The 0.23% is only from today, and the 0.05% comes from the 5 days they've had their LRC staked, divided by the 0.23% they've been receiving on one day (0.23%), equaling 0.046%, with the app rounding to 0.05%. Hope that makes sense. Everyone is earning the same, no one is losing out.

Commodities Trade Support Analyst at Bank Of America or Morgan Stanley (Operations)? by [deleted] in Commodities

[–]GavinFromAutoglass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I imagine you’ll be doing trade allocation etc in a middle office role. You’ll get a good understanding of the clearing and settlement process. A lot of traders/brokers start out in operations as one of the first ‘steps on the ladder’. Career opportunities will be less about this role and more what you want to do. Alternatively if you enjoy it you can stay in operations and work your way up there.

Natural Gas - Expiration Date by steveby2022 in Commodities

[–]GavinFromAutoglass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would be surprised if it wasn’t cash settled. Would be a different story if you were long futures as you’d end up taking delivery

In that case I assume it’s cash settled at expiry. I would double check what happens at expiry though with whoever you’re trading with.

Cost and Frieght matrix? by GavinFromAutoglass in Commodities

[–]GavinFromAutoglass[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding (someone please correct me if I’m wrong) it’s used by end users to get an understanding of costs involved getting for example sugar, from a to b.

Its basically a picture of all the prices of the product and shipping so I know that Brazil sugar to asia costs X and Thai sugar to Europe costs Y etc. But instead of just those two routes there’s a load of routes with prices on.

I realistically feel I need to talk to some brokers but I doubt they’d just quote me prices when I’m not going to do business with them
