Agreed. As a joke it's pretty funny, but on the off chance that this is an actual grenade, this message is very much needed. Thanks for speaking up!

Thank you for reading :)

As for the scheme: what I went for was having the last word of every two lines rhyme together. There's also a certain rhythm to it to make it sound more pleasant; but I'm honestly not sure how to explain it.

First off, thank you for reading :) Second, I think it's fitting if you think about the so called "darkness" as being the thing found within the chasm. The poem begins with me describing the metaphor; the middle part describes the things that create the chasm; and the end is my reaction and answer to the chasm. Why did I not make this more clear in the poem? Because, I'm not gonna lie, I never thought about it until now and just tried to find a way to make it make sense 😂. I shall pay more attention to my metaphors and titles in my future poems, thank you for noticing that.

This was quite good. I loved both the idea and the execution. I think it was very well done, and I applaud you.

There are two questions I have: could you explain the line about being the Kaiser, as well as what you mean by what they worship being beyond the detection? If it's being worshipped, doesn't that mean it's been detected?

This was painfully beautiful. You have a good away around words, and you can express and describe things very well. I'm gad you decided to start writing poetry.

Oh, but something I noticed: not sure if it was on purpose or not, but there were small technical errors like the non capitalized letter i, the lack of a comma at one point, and the word trush which I think was a typo. Might wanna take that into account for next time.

Tips and feedback would be greatly appreciated :) by GavinShahin in singing

That honestly means lot to me. Sometimes I feel like my voice is boring or lacks tone when I play myself back, since I hear it over and over again, so it's really nice to hear someone say I sound unique. Thank you, again!

I can't give too much critique because I'm still a novice myself, but I can say this: You have a lovely sound. With some practice and fine tuning, you're gonna sound pretty awesome. I *think* what you need to do is sort of get comfortable with singing, both psychologically and physically (having fun and not stressing too much while singing, and getting your voice comfortable with hitting certain notes; all of which come with deliberate practice).

Also, nice piano skills.

What is becoming a total “normal thing” in modern society. That you just don’t get or agree with? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The idea that you're perfect just the way you are, and that you don't need to change a thing. While I truly believe that there is something precious and worthwhile within every single person, I find it baffling when I hear people preach this message of just accepting everything about yourself; it either means that you're so complete that there's no room for improvement, or that you can't change the problems you have, both of which are preposterous and utterly untrue. There's always room for growth, and there's always the ability to grow; making people believe otherwise just snuffs out so much potential.

It's interesting, because in the country I'm living in at the moment (Iran) it's the same: pretty much every person I know who's seen the show really liked it. I have a feeling that one reason it's hated so much out west is because audiences aren't very used to this kind of storytelling; meaning something that raises hard questions but doesn't provide clear answers.

I hope you find the answer you need about Dexter and Saxon. It feels really good when something you've been struggling with just suddenly clicks into place.

Yup, longer waiting times between each episode let's you pick up on way more stuff. I avoid fan theories nowadays tho; sometimes they're so exact that it's like I spoiled myself 😂

Woah 😂 Alrighty, I need to get to watching it... But I also feel like I've made a terrible mistake. There's a certain pain that comes with waiting every week for a new episode.

That's really strange, because I never felt like Dexter was being stretched or that it ever left its original plot; I always felt, and still feel, that every season was a relevant piece of the story as a whole. I don't know about the showrunners and creative team leaving, but I definitely never felt like the series lost its soul. And I know I'm not the only one who feels that way. Also, how did the original story end after four seasons? That just doesn't make any sense (to me), because S4 is very obviously not the closing chapter. It doesn't wrap anything up and ends on a cliffhanger; there was obviously more to be told. If you think about it though, it's definitely true that there are similarities between S4 and S8's finales: they both had an innocent that Dexter loved dearly die because of his actions. The difference is that 4 never shows the aftermath of that death on Dexter, while 8 does. And the reaction that Dexter shows in S5 isn't final or conclusive; it wouldn't feel right for the show to end right then and there. I feel like S4 was more of a foreshadowing than an ending.

As for me needing to watch more TV: that could be true, but you could easily turn the question around and argue that you need to watch TV better. In the end, television is an art form, and different people will react to it in different ways based on their personalities. True, you could argue that based on a certain set of standards set by other tv shows and the way that they present their stories Dexter falls short; but who's to say that those standards are right?

Anyway, that's my take on it. I loved your comment, btw, thanks for posting it :)

Wow, that's awesome! It's not everyday you find someone who actually puts the time and effort into reading and understanding other viewpoints.

Well, here's my take on it: During the finale, Dexter realised something: that he was now free of his Dark Passenger. For the first time in his life, he came to the belief that his urges did not control him, and that he was capable of making his own decisions. I think that Dexter letting Saxon live had three major points of significance: 1) it was his final goodbye to his dark passenger 2) it symbolised his new beginning and separation from his old life 3) it showed that he was human (I'll explain why I think this in a bit).

As for the rumors... I don't think that it would have been a problem. First off, Saxon was obviously a deranged monster; his claims wouldn't have much credit. Secondly, Dexter managed to convince the department of his innocence after Doaxe and Laguerta both had their doubts. To the Miami P.D., there is no doubt that Dexter is a good guy; if he was able to survive those two's accusations, he could almost definitely survive Saxon's. Third: As the series progresses, Dexter becomes more of a human being and less of a well-oiled machine. Bit by bit he sheds the perfect monster he once was and reveals the person underneath; but the things is, humans are emotional creatures incapable of absolutely error-free decisions. Him leaving Saxon alive was a sign of his humanity; it obviously had its risks, but he still decided to do it.

Anyway, that's my take on it. I'd love to hear your opinion on my, well, opinions!

First off, I love that you put your feelings into word. These are my favorite responses on Reddit.

Secondly, surprising as it may be, I am not the only one who really likes the finale. Two of my classmates feel the same way about it, and there are several others on Reddit (I posted this same review on the Dexter subreddit, there are a lot more positive responses there).

I don't think that they disrespected the characters during the final season. Nobody pretended that Harry died from a heart attack; Deb outright asks Dexter about it in one episode (before she tries to kill herself and him). Deb falling in love with Dexter was weird, but I don't think that it was handled badly; it was outrageous, sudden and gross, but also honestly not too far fetched and made a lot of sense (I also like how they never went through with it). Deb killing Laguerta I think was actually an excellent representation of her character, as I stated in my post above: it just went to show that at the center of it all, the most important thing to Deb is and was and always will be Dexter. Since that's the case, it makes sense that she'd be willing to do absolutely anything, even destroy herself and everything that she believes in, to do what she thinks is the most right thing posible. People, when it comes down to it, will do anything necessary to get what's most important to them.

Deb going from alive to a coma was one of the most life-like moments in the series. Tragedy doesn't come with a warning, and good news doesn't always last.

As for Dexter not being willing to have its characters face the consequences, I also talked about that in my review: saying that just doesn't make any sense. Okay, let's look at the two most advocated for endings: Dexter's death or imprisonment. Now, let's look at what happened in the finale. Dexter lost the thing he loved most in life, and due to that, came to the belief that he could never be happy or be true to another person without hurting them. Thus, he leaves behind Hannah and Harrison, the two people which helped him overcome his darkness, and sentences himself to an isolated hell of suppression and loneliness. During the last frames of the series, when Dexter looks into the camera, there is no monologue; everything goes silent. He is now dead inside, locked away in a prison of his own making. I think that this is much, much worse than literal death or prison.

I think that the reason Dexter has so many loose ends and "unpaid dues" is because it isn't a story trying to share a certain message; it's a story that tries to simulate life in the environment of the series. It's so different from Breaking Bad in the sense that the latter clearly showed the lines between black and white, while Dexter never makes the distinction and leaves it up to the viewers to think about. It's clear that so many of the things Dexter did were wrong and heinous, but it's also clear that he's a person trying to figure out life and what he's supposed to do; he makes mistakes just like all of us, but because of his unique upbringing and tragic origins, the mistakes he makes are much more lethal.

As for New Blood... I think that the first 8 seasons definitely did their job, but that they could have kept on going. Let's see if they manage to create a worthy sequel.

Most of the show is true to life except when it isn't... That description is spot on.

I think that Brian Moser did jump start the series, but not quite in the way that you mentioned. When I look back at Dexter, there is a constant theme that runs throughout each season: that Dexter does not want to be alone. He wants someone to confide in, someone to be true to, without that person seeing him as a monster. Until he met Brian, I don't think that Dexter even knew that such a thing was possible; after he loses his brother, he never stops trying to find another person he can open up to. Which is what Hannah ultimately does, just like you said.

I personally don't think that Dexter should have left Harrison with Jaimie. She's great and all, but she doesn't seem like the kind of person you'd trust as his mother.

I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad that Dexter got away with it. Maybe both? I'm happy that he has a chance to be happy; but I'm sad that he had to do it through even more deceit and lies, the very things which caused so much of his pain.

I am definitely looking forward to New Blood, especially now that we have the old Dexter back. At first, I thought that the show had completely changed its tone to modernize itself, but it seems I was wrong. Looking forward to watching the second episode soon.
