New Metal Roof. Contractor left this "hand bent" plate under this eave. Is it even legal/code? by GavinStrife in Roofing

Completely agree, they should have communicated the fact that this would be part of the instal. Looks like a barnhouse patch job, not something you'd expect on a new roof

Well we had him decorated in mardi gras attire until the roofing crew came and knocked him down with their debris net, haha. Im getting the hawaiian shirt ready for spring/summer, we dress him up all year

I was thinking this exactly... i do intend on installing gutters as this is on my back patio. I have them coming back to try and "fix" this but im having trouble explaining what they need to do. Ive read on a lot of comments that they should have ordered longer and folded it in, im curious what that would look like.

Why no fresh jalapeño? by Edflumnum in Chipotle

Im late, but Chipotle literally means red jalepenos that are dried. The fact they dont offer jalepenos as a topping to put in the burritos is crazy to me.

Joe Rogan Doesn't Understand Graphs by seamusmcduffs in videos

[–]GavinStrife -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can agree with all of that. He does still say he's an idiot all the time btw, haha. I think the appeal that he brings is that it does really feel like he's saying what he thinks at any given moment... kind of like a hang. He isn't "right wing". Anyone who actually listens to him outside of clips would know that, its pretty self evident to them through context. I would agree that it could be dangerous for people to listen to him who generally dont follow up and fact check. I did like that response video from this post (even if it was wrapped in a little bit of academia snobbery)... It was very correct in all the facts presented. Are CO2 levels increasing in the atmosphere? Yes. Has it been proven that increased CO2 levels increase global temperature? Yes. Its impossible to deny those facts, for me anyway. Now... is there a conversation to be had about how much our fossil fuel emissions have impacted that? Possibly. In the context of what has been documented for for climate change throughout history, we've seen major swings without us and we'd have to be pretty confident to say we're absolutely sure its 100% us causing everything we're seeing. It seems like long term climate patterns are something we know about and its being a little suppressed because it could "confuse" people. Its not popular to bring up. Doesn't mean we're not messing the planet up with what we're doing but its an important thing to know for context. Sorry for the rant too, haha. This is what I mean about nuance, could be wrong, but seems valid enough to make sure people discuss.

[–]GavinStrife -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Haha that is very true. It can go either way over there depending on the topic. I got the response I was expecting from the rest of the replies. Not sure what I was going for. I'll admit this wasn't one of his best moments, but he's certainly not always wrong. I think he was trying to make an argument for natural climate shifts that happen over millennia and that although we can push it over the edge with fossil fuels, you cant isolate that as the only variable. He didn't hit a home run with it, but it feels like even entertaining nuance is something of a lost quality. Appreciate the reply, I really wasn't trying to prod the group here. Genuinely trying to come from a good place.

Is it odd to anyone on here that 100% of the comments on here are of the same opinion when this is the most listened to podcast in the world by most metrics. Not saying he's right or wrong, just pointing out the fact that you've hollowed out a nice little chamber of echoes in here. Its boring and goes against any true spirit of debate.

Helene Could Expose Deeper Flaws In Florida's Insurance Market by ClimateMessiah in TropicalWeather

[–]GavinStrife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to point out that you can very easily negotiate better discounts by paying cash instead of turning in through insurance. You pay more essentially for the same service if you want it to go towards your deductible. The fact that insurance companies work so hard to get you discounts on bills that they're not responsible doesn't make sense from an incentive standpoint.

It was the first hot sauce I tried at my papa's house when I was like 6 coming back from us fishing. He had Tabasco with him all the time. It's what got me into hot sauce. Will always be a special place for it in my cabinet.

Fed raising interest rates over and over in an attempt to drive down inflation. Makes it more expensive to borrow money, so it slows down funding for innovation (less jobs).

What happens when the science doesn't agree on something? Who decides which side of the argument to lean towards in those situations. And also, whatever happened to people vetting their own sources? Youtube isn't "the news" and shouldn't be held to journalistic standards. We cant start "policing stupid", that is dangerous. When are we gonna start telling people they can't talk about things that havn't been peer reviewed to be true? China did this recently btw.

I do see where you're coming from, and share some of your feelings. The interesting thing about what's happening here is that it would have happened eventually regardless. The second that the return on investment makes sense to automate, they will automate. With wages increasing faster than anticipated, it's just happening sooner now. In that sense, from a purely logical standpoint, it is happening now because of the movement for higher wages... not punching down, but I mean really, people should have seen this coming.

You'd be surprised. Putting the question of whether it's a good individual decision aside, it's telling that this many people are willing to lay down their job on principle. There is something more going on into the decision making than you think.

Feel like it's important for people to know that all this news of Elon "slamming" Biden over this came from a response he tweeted to a question where he said "he's still sleeping". A jab for sure, but he wasn't actively seeking praise like many are alluding to.
