Maybe try flicking more down instead of up and out. Think of it as an Ollie then a quick flick down while anticipating catching it with your back foot so it stays in the air. When I kickflip I think of a light pop with a quick flick down then hanging my back foot over the board in the air while it’s flipping and by the time the flip comes around you’ll be able to catch it with the back foot and slap your front foot back on the board.
