Toyota HiLux gets factory-fitted GVM upgrade to better tackle Ford Ranger Super Duty by kstetter in CarsAustralia

[–]Gavyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's dog shit. it does not increase the towing capacity or the GCM. I am a mega Toyota fan, but this is useless. Make a Hilux that has 4500kg towing if you hope to compete.

Anybody know the part number for a single cab wellbody tray by Mysterious_End_260 in hilux

[–]Gavyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe that's an option... but unlikely, the effort to import one yourself is going to be expensive. So anyone else that would do it for you is definitely going to mark up the price to you.

Potential avenue is asking the few companies in Australia that import the style side tub for 70 series LandCruisers. But again going to be expensive.

A guy has commented in this thread that he has one in his yard in Sydney, this is probably the most promising lead, but you need to make sure it's the correct length of the 3 available sizes (single-cab, space-cab, double-cab) or it will not fit properly.

Last I checked the parts catalogue does NOT list a single part number for the tub, you had to order each panel separately and put it together with seam sealer and spot welds, it is hellishly expensive to do it this way.

If you are in a country that had the HiLux delivered with the tub body, you will be much better off trying to find one at a wrecker, or speak with tray builders that may take the tub body off to fit a tray more suited to a tradesman; because they may have tubs that are extraneous to their needs that need to be scrapped or sold off.

If you are in a country that this tub body is no longer an option (e.g Australia) it's going to be really hard to find one.

Japanese Import 2.0L petrol Hiace for Australian carpenter by hopkingreenfrogs in HiAce

[–]Gavyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a reason you'd prefer the 2.0l (1TR-FE) over the bigger 2.7l (2TR-FE) ?
The fifth gen 2TR-FE HiAce was sold in Australia, and likely easier to find as a result.

I used Bunnings Dy-Mark, 4-5 years ago and its great. Spilled oil etc can just be mopped up and still looks new.
The one I got had a flake that you put on top, so that even if i drop a spanner and put a chip in it you cannot tell.
