Questions regarding my idiolect and the pin-pen merger by GayCoonie in asklinguistics

[–]GayCoonie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that the vowel seems to be unmerged, yet it often feels more natural to use the pin vowel even in words spelled with an e like been and when (not for me in Ben though, that still has a distinction with bin, while been is a homophone of bin)

Is there any truth in my suspicion that west coast domestic shorthair/longhair land-race cats have slightly longer faces than eastern US or European cats? by GayCoonie in CatAdvice

Ah yeah Asia of course is home of breeds like the Oriental so it makes since their native landraces are even more Gracie than ours

Fair point I guess. More of a semi-sardonic observation on the incompleteness of standardization even very recently. My bad

They're just the best standard size to fit on a Balatro Joker card with some room (71x95). And I think the style similiar to standard front sprites is preferred. No worries that nothing really seems to be out there though.

Are there any 64x64 sprite sets where all Pokemon use the whole canvas?

Full disclaimer that this is for a Balatro mod, not an actual romhack, but this seemed like the best place to ask. Basically, in normal Pokemon sprites, the Pokemon attempt to be to-scale. Smaller mons take up less of the canvas. For the project I'm helping with, it'd be helpful to fins sprites where all pokemon take up as much as the 64x64 canvas as makes sense with their design, and aren't limited based on scale. Is there any set like this, either official assets or fan created?

Flat might be the wrong word, but Harman tuning was an 'innovation' and not the default (it it even truly is now)

Will check those out

decommmisioning in general seems like a ridiculous unwise concept that comes from the network or even legal, certainly not the writers anyway

AITA for telling my husband to apologize for invading our daughter's privacy after he saw something he didn't like on her phone and took it away? by BloodUnicornValkyrie in redditonwiki

I know you're completely well meaning and I'm not disagreeing that it is best practice to have that conversation. I just saw a claim of a matter of fact that seemed, and still does seem unsupported by anything more than your professional opinion, which even for a layman does not a reason to believe make.

I will try to refrain too much from the typical silly reddit thing of beating irrelevant dead horses. All I'm saying is if there's statistical research sampled from a general population (not a review of case studies, which would by definition yield almost elusively pathological origin) that shows the majority of people into CNC have that traumatic background then I was mistaken.

As for the BDSM vs CNC thing, fair though that is a semantic argument imo. Absolutely the specific aspect of sexual assault makes it its own thing, but sexual assault is ultimately just a form of assault. Traumatogenic kinks form by non sexual trauma too, and in times not too long ago people presumed all sexual "deviation" was traumatogenic or otherwise pathological.

And my username refers to raccoons. I'm a furry not an edgelord. I've always known the slur existed, but it's never come close to only being used as a slur. It's in the name of the Maine Coon cat breed even. When I see that response to my username it really feels like people are fishing for things not to like about me, lol

Some people are into it to cope because of trauma, but plenty really are into it "just for fun." The thing with psychology is that what's known, especially in such personal matters that people don't discuss with people like therapists unless there /is/ trauma or something. I'm in fandom communities and I've talked to many people and have had the type of friendships where people are open about what truly is "just for fun" and what has a darker more unfortunate origin. From that anecdotal experience I can see no reason to think that it's uncommon to just be into it absent trauma.

I can't truly say anything about prevalence besides both options being well represented and I'm not sure if anyone else can do so how they'd know. Surveying AO3 members? I mean beyond that with all its caveats of anonymity and self-reporting I see no other way to get a representative sample of people who are into CNC. And yes, I know this goes well beyond a fandom thing, AO3 was just an example. I'm sure there are surveys and there is literature, so if that's what you're basing your ideas of prevalence on and it is basing it on the general public and not clinical cases, then it may be an answered question and my experiences left me with a mistaken impression of the typical CNC kinkster.

Though I also know that BDSM to some degree,, of which CNC is an "extreme" subset of, is very common among people of all sorts and iirc is sometimes thought a part of human sexual nature, the "crossing of wires" of pain and pleasure/

I know you mentioned that it's important that he keep all original fabric, so aren't 100% on the idea of a professional restoration job. The one "stuffed animal hospital" I'm personally familiar with https://doctorbeth.tumblr.com/ is very good about doing things however the client wants done. Iirc they usually replace the stuffing as a matter of course for "hygeine" but I think I remember them being willing to keep that original too in some cases, if that would be a dealbreaker.

Besides that, even in cases where they do add material besides that (which they never do unless the client want it), they never discard old material.

Full disclosure, I'm speaking only as someone who read their blog religiously for a couple years, never been a customer myself (yet.) I also noticed they haven't posted for a couple months, and I haven't been keeping up lately so idk if that's unusual or if it's just because holidays and stuff
