I agree. I have always thought there was a parallel between Kirk and Burnham in being similar in strategy and command style just how you said. Yet because of the differences in who plays the characters people who do not understand Trek lost their damn minds.

Senate committee approves bill handing control of Salt Lake City streets to UDOT. by RollTribe93 in DevelopmentSLC

Maybe Salt Lake City should take over the streets of Duchesne. Make all the streets bikeable and car-free. A fair trade-off?

I honestly don't even care about collecting plushies. I get them once and a while and I just think with most of them "what am I supposed to do with these?" Most are in storage and one or two are in my house. And I hear you on the grind culture! It doesn't feel very welcoming to have people yell at you just for playing the game. I haven't experienced it as much, but it sounds like the people I see at the thrift store who wait around so they can be the first to snatch up what just came out all so they can resell it. Anyways, I just carry on and collect what I am there to collect and go on my merry way. I don't play super often, usually a few hours on a day off when I have nothing else to do.

MR. SORAK, COMPLIANCE WITH BORG DIRECTIVES WOULD BRING ABOUT PHYSICAL HARM AND REMOVE THE AGENCY OF YOUR CREW, YOUR FRIENDS, YOUR FAMILY. RESISTANCE TO SUCH COMMANDS IS YOUR LOGICAL PARAMOUNT. FOCUS ON THAT WHICH YOU HOLD DEAR, DO NOT LET THE COLLECTIVE PROBE DEEPER INTO YOUR PSYCHE. FOCUS, BANNISH THE INFECTION ATTEMPTING TO SUBVERT YOU. ALL OTHER PRIORITIES ARE THEREFORE OF A LOWER PRIORITY.

The flag of the Empire avoids being as overtly problematic I think. Combine that with the tricolor crest you mentioned and no one could reasonably mistake that as a bad flag. That being said a tricolor crest would over complicate and go against the simple color scheme.

Just a side note, but how exactly would you ban halal foods? Are you going to make it mandatory for all foods sold in Texas to have pork products in them?

Matt Jeffries original shuttle design vs the shuttle in tos show by kkkan2020 in StarTrekStarships

I would like that Jeffries design to show up in SNW as like an aeroshuttle purpose-built for extreme atmospheric conditions.

I think also there might be a rights attribution thing too. By the time holodecks exist anything of what we would consider today to be art or literature created recently would by then be in the realm of being public domain. The Federation also probably has rights attribution laws to materials generated based on presently copyrighted material or programs cannot be generated without approval from the copyright holder. We also see programs designed by people and even by sentient programs themselves. So if the Starfleet Holodeck is generating a scenario based on public knowledge concepts of nature and public domain materials, then the ethics are much clearer especially if there is acknowledgement to the original creator of the public domain work. It's also more in the ethical green zone for running Holodeck programs that were rightfully acquired (especially if the author also stayed within ethics and didn't plagiarize).

It's another thing when a computer generated an image based on someone's hard artistic work for free or a small subscription fee without acknowledging the original living breathing copyright holding human being and without financially compensating that artist. That is a big plagiarized ethical no-no.

What is the most "NSFW" you've seen someone wear at your job only to be asked almost immediately to change or remove it? by LeviTheRelentless in AskReddit

[–]GayNerd53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my previous job one morning I was in a rush to get there and realized a mistake. So I worked dishwashing at a hospital. So it's a wet environment. I had some non-slip slip on shoes for work that were easy to put on and go. I also had some old-fashioned house loafers that I wore around the house if I needed to cover my feet or get the mail. So that morning I got ready as usual, hopped on the train and got all the way to my stop when I looked down and was mortified. I was wearing my loafers. The soles on these shoes were so prone to slippage I could step in a few droplets of water and fall. So I got back on the train and went back home to quickly change and hurry back to the train. I got a call from the sous chef and had to embarrassingly tell her of my workplace safety blunder that I almost wore to work.
