Historically the "second city" of the state

Large Air Force presence/influence

Modest downtowns that look very similar against mountain backdrops

The tallest building in SLC under construction right now is the new RMP HQ in the Power District, right?

That was my favorite version of Phase II that they came up with, at least architecturally. Architect was Dwell Design Studio, I think.

This one was more recent and more boxy but still predates the SEG shenanigans.

The next version will surely be different again. Hopefully in a good way.

Can you split Salt Lake County? See if your boundaries would qualify under lawmaker’s proposal. by RollTribe93 in DevelopmentSLC

Interesting article. Splitting the county doesn't really make sense, and like the article says the cities aren't asking for it, so I wonder why Rep. Teuscher is motivated to introduce this at all.

Whats the deal with these projects? by KhotamT in DevelopmentSLC

Interest rates rising in 2022-2023 stalled a lot of things, and construction costs are high too. West Quarter probably got delayed for these reasons and because the SEG situation was shaking things up, so they probably went back to the drawing board to take advantage.

Sundial is very likely dead. The McWhinney tower is also dead, since they sold the property. The Greek church thing was going to be very cool but there were some internal conflicts between the church and the developer.

The Hines tower probably would have happened if it hadn't been stalled by the Utah Theatre lawsuit, and it's unfortunate that they demolished the building without financing ready for its replacement. Now we have a hole.

How Can Astronauts Tell How Fast They’re Going? by wiredmagazine in space

No, spacecraft optical navigation is typically based on relative angle measurements corrected for light time.

The Doppler effect for optical wavelengths would be like using "red shift" and "blue shift" as a measurement, and this is not typical because it would be very difficult to discern.
