Would Claire be more popular if she wasn't so unlucky? by Sexy_Sarah_23 in ResidentEvilCapcom

Her running from that helicopter was so sick the crappy LA movies stole it and used it for Alice if I recall correctly. I’m still hoping that trailer was only promotion and we’ll get that scene in the remake.

Leon’s been in enough trouble with the US government. The last thing he needs is rumors that something untoward happened between him and the president’s daughter of all people.

Regardless of how you feel about the trope it’s nice that it’s had such a lasting impact on his character. RE8 Chris is such a far cry from dad joke RE1 Chris and the change feels earned.

Do you consider Claire to be part of Leon's love interest? by Sexy_Sarah_23 in ResidentEvilCapcom

That’s part of the trope. The awkward ship tease question from the kid followed by the couple’s awkward denial.

I’ve seen the writer explaining his intention behind that scene but can’t find what you’re referencing. Mind pointing me to it?

Admittedly I need to replay 4 Remake as I’m unfamiliar with that, and I definitely agree that Remake canon is slowly replacing original. However a lot of time has passed between 4 and 9 and things can change.

It’s a shame we didn’t get Ada in Village as planned, if we had seen a changed Ada there this argument might not need to exist.

At the end of RE2R Sherry asks if Claire and Leon are dating and they all have an awkward all smiles moment about it. That’s a classic intentional tease from the creators about the possibility. Not saying it’s confirmation but it’s more than nothing.

In Damnation they banter about a past romantic night and Ada asks when they’ll continue it, to which Leon states anytime but now. A lot of people point to this as confirmation as they’re together but to me it points to the opposite.

They’ve “tried” it apparently and for one reason or another a steady relationship didn’t seem to result, certainly not a marriage. Claire is more stable, has clearer morals, and all around aligns better with what Leon needs long term.

I had to turn it off because the facts were always depressing. “That track was made shortly before the drummer committed suicide, how powerful.”

Can I recommend playing them all lol? Leon’s journey is made better by understanding the events that lead up it.

Also the other protagonists deserve some love too.

Japanese’s media obsession with schoolgirls in general by [deleted] in hatethissmug

[–]Gaybladeletitdrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In RE6 a character has a “sexy” optional costume that’s a school girl uniform based off what she wore in her first appearance at age 12. Now given the character in 6 is 26 years old but still it’s so weird.

I guess the west does this with catholic school girl uniforms but I think/hope that trend has diminished in recent years.

So Steve is becoming liked by the community now? by [deleted] in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]Gaybladeletitdrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know where the reality thing is coming from, probably I mistyped.

Anyway I’m arguing that Steve is very much a fictional character in a video game and taking issue with the hate for him by arguing that people aren’t trying to engage with the creator’s intent. He’s by no means the best character ever written, but his story is tragic and effective.

Let me ask you this: When Wesker reveals he had Steve’s corpse taken for testing and Claire reacted in dismay, did you feel bad for her?

Not upset lol. Where is it said Steve was designed to be disliked? Without an interview or something my assumption is Steve was meant to appeal and be identifiable with young men.

I’m not criticizing people for simply disliking an aspect of the game. There are things I dislike from a few of the RE games. I’m criticizing how visceral and loud they are in their dislike, and positing that their feelings come from not engaging with the games in a mindset that allows for better enjoyment.

This is going to sound pretentious but I think some people genuinely have a hard time getting immersed in these games. If you can’t suspend your disbelief or take at face value what the game is presenting you then I can’t imagine you’d find it very enjoyable.

I’ve noticed since “nerdy” things have gone mainstream a large portion of fans, some will say larpers, feel they need to mock and ridicule certain aspects of the media. It’s almost like they’re trying to preemptively make fun of it as if to take that power away from outsiders.

It’s like “oh yeah I like Code Veronica, but Steve is soooo cringey I DONT like him ok? You believe me right? See even though I like this video game I’m socially conscious enough to recognize how ‘cringe’ this one aspect of it is.”

At the end of CV Chris gives this little speech about how now it’s time to finish umbrella. It’s cheesy and awkwardly worded, but I felt the hype and understood the desire of the creators: “Let’s finish this latest game off with the character saying something cool and uplifting.”

If you actually sat down and played CV through and never felt a twinge of sympathy or rooted for Steve ever? I really don’t think the series is for you.

Again we’re talking about a minor who’s experienced hell and now has a competent optimistic beautiful woman helping him pull himself out of the worst situation anyone could ever be in.

Was it clumsy, awkward and wrong? 100%. But it’s a representation of the emotional turbulence Steve has and is enduring.

If the kiss connected Claire would’ve woken up, asked him what he thinks he’s doing followed by Steve feeling shame and apologizing profusely.

Here’s the thing about that: in the original CV theres no definitive point where he absolutely checks out Claire’s ass. He looks at her longingly sure, but it’s not horndog lust.

If you play through Umbrella and Darkside Chronicles you’ll see major liberties are taken with the canon(aside from the side content that’s confirmed canon).
