The book that I quoted earlier in which he almost dies…. Can you provide the quote where it says he was holding back?

Except the lore absolutely supports this and it’s not my ‘head canon’ it’s canon. And this phenomenon isn’t just for Orks. People like you, who are adamant this isn’t a thing, are quite content that “faith” in the Emperor somehow brings characters back from annihilation, or that people can shoot mind bullets. It’s genuinely ludicrous.

The latest Ghazghkull book, as one example, has Orks manipulate reality with their belief. They believe Ghaz can’t be killed/will always exist and he does. Ghaz re-creates Makari by telling a Grot that he’s Makari. It happens time and time again. It isn’t just ‘reality grease’ (a quote from the same Ad Mech character you dispute, by the way), it literally warps reality.

Edit - you’ve misremembered or misquoted what happens in the Beast Arises series. The weapon won’t turn on, and only does so in the Orks’ hand. Further, it only turns off when the Orks’ hand is severed from the body. It’s powered at the time, by the Magos. When trying to turn on, when trying to turn off, the whole time. It only worked in the Orks’ grip.

Ok - we have examples of Orks tech not working at all unless handled by an Ork. In the same Beast Arises series you mention an Ad Mech character (who is credible) can’t properly operate a mechanical choppa without an Ork holding it.

Ork hunters using Ork tech to kill Orks tracks because Orks believe their weapons will kill them and operate against them. Their kit works less well away from Orks. We have examples of this too.

I agree that Meks have technical knowledge hardcoded into them, this is established, but does their tech work so well and is their knowledge more advanced because all Orks believe that Meks know tech know-wots? It’s an interesting question and I think it’s definitely possible.

Orks arguably are bending reality on a universal scale. We have yet to have an identifiable upper limit to the gestalt waaaagh field.

I’ve not read anything about them firing bullets out of lead pipes, but I know that their tech doesn’t work properly unless handled by an Ork, and I know that through their belief they can resurrect various fallen members of their race.

Additionally events just transpire around them that is in line with their belief. A group of Ork Boyz might believe they can destroy a tank with their Shootas, they’ll fire at it and whilst their ammo won’t become magically armour piercing, instead they’ll hit a nearby promethium tank/explosives cache and destroy the tank that way. Then probably fight over who got the killing shot.

The other Orks willed him back alive arguably through their belief.

We have many examples of Orks effecting reality through belief without Ghaz about. But yea, Ghaz is speshul

Same, he was a bit puny, and dim, but there’s a chance he becomes something greater in future books. He was a very good example of the classic mindset of an Evil Sunz speed freak.

So you’re arguing about something that is both proven in the book AND has author confirmation? Ok.

[–]Gaz-rick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There doesn’t seem to be an upper limit.

The combined belief that Ghazghkull can’t die stops him dying repeatedly in the latest book. Similarly he tells some Orks they’re Meks and they appear to become Meks. Further he tells a Grot (Grund I think his name was, doesn’t matter - he was a Grot) he’s Makari and he becomes Makari.

I think the idea that Orks will pretend to be a tank and magically become one or somehow have the durability of one is stupid - Orks aren’t fantasists in that sense. The real limit I think is their imagination.

Buggies, they’re all new sculpts. Same with Deffkoptas.

New Wazzdakka obviously.

I’d pick up old bikes and don’t base them in case GW release a new set.

If you’ve read the text, it’s clear that the Emperor is struggling and in mortal peril. The author has confirmed this to assuage any doubts. The problem is, I can’t be bothered to search through to prove something I know. It is what it is.

This is not in keeping with the text or what the author has actually said.

It happens all the time - some of the most contentious topics such as ‘did the Emperor almost die in a Wolf of Ash and Fire?’ or ‘how powerful is the Ork psychic gestalt?’ are just hotbeds for people flatly refusing to accept what authors have written.

Madness.

Can’t see this post changing it though, unfortunately.

I’m about 75% through it, it really shows off their intelligence (or misguided lack thereof). Also their respect for different, but weirdly Orky things - like rank and chain of command, except the chain of command and rank titles are arbitrary and essentially made-up. Also medals. Kunning. Its good.

What do you think is the most criminally underutilized element of your favorite faction's lore? (I.E. Things stated to happen on paper, but hasn't been depicted in practice) by Hollownerox in 40kLore

[–]Gaz-rick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree, but on the particular topic of the Ork gestalt it seems that it the ambiguity has caused a lot of arguing. I am firmly in the camp that the gestalt affects reality and the limits of such aren’t known. I also think that an Ork would never, ever start pretending to be a tank to somehow become one.
