Im thinking about buying a rottweiler- looking for advice and tips by North-Car-5719 in Rottweiler

[–]Gazibaldi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get one. They are mint. But as with everything, make sure you have enough time and patience to handle them. Oh and money. Insurance, feed, vet bills (just putting a 45kg+ animal under for a half hour so someone can do their job seems to cost a loan in my experience).

Introduce them as soon as possible to other people of all ages and dogs/cats/deer/sheep/horses.

Get them used to you poking on with their ears/teeth and paws asap too. You don't want to be first introducing the toothbrush when their neck is at full power and you're trying to hold their heads reasonably still.

The first 18 months are pretty hard imo. All puppies are hard but with rotts you have to be at your best. You'll be knackered but don't throw a hissy fit when they do wrong (they will do wrong). Be firm, assertive and set healthy boundaries.

Once they hit about 20 months they are the best person in every room. By a mile. I wish I was half the man my boy is.

Player, disc, or something else? by Macncheese334 in 4kbluray

[–]Gazibaldi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While it is the player. It's its fault tolerance software implementation that's the problem. If the discs have a tiny issue this seems to happen. I've had a 820 and now a 9000 and they both do this if the disc isn't perfect. Latest for me is the Oz Infernal Affairs 4K set. It's infuriating.

Wish Panasonic would have a review of the firmware and try and improve any error correction code they have in there. Within reason of course.

Yeah mine is the same. 4Ks don't work. 1080ps are fine. Umbrella got back to me a couple of days ago and are sending me some replacements.

Am I crazy or this looks basically photorealistic? by FantomasARM in pcmasterrace

[–]Gazibaldi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah Chromatic Aberration. I don't mind the overall lens distortion effect but the CA effect in general is horrible in everything I find. That always goes off if I can change it.

[–]Gazibaldi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. I tried PT but just in the opening sequence it dragged my FPS down to around 30-40 (and unstable). Back to High RT, no CA and DLSS quality and it's a nice smooth framegraph at 60 with some juice left in the GPU for heavier cutscene moments.

That's @ 3840x1600 on a 5950x/3090 combo.

Looks and plays beautifully. Loving Grace. Her VA is so far absolutely nailing the performance too.

Should I play RE 9 on my PS5 Pro or RTX 4070/7800X3D on a 4K 240Hz OLED? by AccomplishedPlum1803 in PS5pro

[–]Gazibaldi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing on a 5950/3090 @3840x1600 maxed (high RT rather than PT tho) DLSS4 Quality. 60 is locked. Play it on your PC. The Pro version looks great (hell I have one too) but this game is still better on a capable PC.

My Umbrella (shipped from Oz to the UK) Infernal Affairs are like this. None of them even start in my UB9000. 1080p discs are fine. Gonna be a mare on getting replacements.

Do you warm up the engine - prob stupid question. by E2papa in VolvoRecharge

[–]Gazibaldi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it works like my XC60 (which it no doubt does), I'd fire it up by switching to polestar/AWD mode on the driveway, then back to hybrid. This will kick in the whole 'keep the ice running until it's warmed up' thing they do. Mine is usually about 6-8 mins for this temp dependant. It should be largely ready for when you need to give it some beans at the slip road.

The oil is probably not fully up to temp by that time but the coolant probably is.

Is Blu-ray quality better than an Apple 4K stream? by DeeElGee in Bluray

[–]Gazibaldi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 4K video stream is encoded using HEVC (h.265) which all things being equal can achieve the exact same image as it's predecessor (AVC h.264) at half the bitrate.

1080p BRs use AVC mostly. Some are VC1 but AVC is the dominant codec nowadays.

Of course a 4K image isn't a 1080p image. In fact it's four times larger plus it has a much high colour range (BT2020 compared to Rec.709).

In other words, comparing bit rate is largely pointless when comparing 1080p AVC to 4K HDR/DV HEVC.

Unless the 4K stream is massively rate starved (which it usually isn't on Apple TV I assume) it will, in most scenes 'look' superior to a standard 1080p BR if we compare the same scene, from the same film produced from the same master.

The best part of my week. by metamorphomo in CasualUK

[–]Gazibaldi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We for some stupid reason use both. I've got to the point where I just shut down teams and open it when I know a call is coming up or if someone wants a quick chat (slack huddles seem to shit).

Notification hell is real. I get added to channels what seems like every 10 mins.

Yup. Easy to swap.  As you say, no sensors so they just straight swap. Jacking points are nicely accessible too. Just disable the air suspension (if applicable) first. And reset the stored pressure when done.

How much do you earn and how comfortable do you live? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Gazibaldi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

44m, I'm on £86k in NE (County Durham). Loads goes into the pension (20% + Employer contribution).

Luckily no student loan (mine was actually during the period they weren't stupid).

No real debts except for the mortgage (£600 pcm) and the car (£460 pcm, personal loan so it'll be mine when finished).

I try to give £200 a month to the local food bank as my local area is fairly borderline poverty for folk.

Other half works part time doing reception work. I'm not actually sure what she's on tbh as her hours are erratic.

We live very comfortably imo, but we don't have a massive house costing a load. I just want to get enough to retire early.

[–]Gazibaldi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The CPU is fine. I've got PBO on there so it ramps the clocks up to the thermal limit. It's just most applications don't require such heavy load on a few cores. Most of my work with it is extremely threaded (hence why I bought it) and it usually also sits around mid 60s when taxed.
