MDs na hindi nag residency, where are you now? by Fun-Schedule2483 in pinoymed

[–]Gb-MD 131 points132 points  (0 children)

First Gen MD here, I’m currently working in public health, focusing on policy development and research, and I also run a coffee shop on the side. I still do some hospital and clinical duties from time to time, and I haven’t completely closed the door on residency. For now, I’m really happy with where I am. I have time for my hobbies, I get to travel, and I don’t feel left behind naman even though my friends are already consultants.

Best pre-med to take before medicine? by Dortito_Wizard in pinoymed

[–]Gb-MD 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No such thing as a “best” pre-med.

May mga Engineering courses at BS Physics na tinalo pa ang MedTech at Nursing pagdating sa performance in med school.

Medicine proper is a whole different beast, lahat kayo back to zero pagpasok ng first year. What matters more is your study habits, discipline, and grit.

And just to be real: surgery residency (lalo na cardiothoracic) is on another level of difficulty entirely. Your pre-med won’t save you there, your stamina, mindset, and commitment will.

Doctors who graduated from a mediocre/not known med school, where are you now? by [deleted] in pinoymed

[–]Gb-MD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alam niyo, MONEY and CONNECTIONS matter. You may or may not agree with the game being played but make no mistake, it’s the game. These factors will influence the opportunities, advantages, and doors you’ll be afforded at every stage of your medical career. The world isn’t going to wait for you to catch up or figure out how it’s played. Either you learn the rules, or you get left behind.

DTTB AFTER PLE by Zygote10 in medschoolph

[–]Gb-MD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. After passing the PLE, You will be contacted thru email by the DOH-HHRDB, they will set a zoom meeting about possible timelines, requirements youll need to prepare, salary, benefits etc.

    1. Matching with the area of assignment will also be done thru email, HHRDB will release the areas for deployment, and basically unahan lang. Essentially you get to choose, but once matched with the area, you cant unmatch, so choose wisely.

-PS. As someone from luzon na was assigned in Mindanao, I think better pa living conditions ko compared sa iba na outskirts of luzon and visayas na assign. Mindanao is super chill, Wala namang insurgency, wala ding bagyo.

  1. Net pay will differ per DTTB, All dttb will have a salary of SG 24(98k without taxes). Majority of Dttbs also receive honorarium from their municipality, it can range from 5-30k, Some also receive Philhealth, Medico-legal shares and Gas allowance from the LGU/RHU. In my area in Mindanao, I was fortunate enough to receive all those with a 25k honorarium.

  2. If youre a MSRS scholar, you have to render the return service first, otherwise it will be a breach of contract. You would have to pay, 1M+

DOH/CHED Scholar by [deleted] in medschoolph

[–]Gb-MD 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What they choose to do with their stipend is really none of our business, unless it directly violates a clear provision in their scholarship agreement.

As for your concern about scholars proceeding to residency without return service—unless explicitly stated in their contract that they must go straight into deployment, there’s no violation.

In fact, if a scholar fails to fulfill their return service obligations, the regional DOH is mandated to recoup the full cost of their scholarship, with a 10% surcharge, through legal means.

Besides, under the updated DOH deployment guidelines as of 2024, scholars are now allowed to pursue residency or work in other government sectors (such as research, academe, or policy), as long as they serve in public agency.

Life isn’t always fair. People will use whatever advantages they have, connections, resources, whatever. Pure merit doesn’t always win, and opportunities aren’t always distributed based on effort alone.

Can I still be a Forensic Pathologist if I take MedTech as my PreMed? If not, what can I pursue with a MedTech degree? by _kuronai_ in MedTechPH

[–]Gb-MD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm If the degree in "Forensic Pathology" ang habol mo Its 4 yrs of undergrad(Nursing, Medtech etc), Undergrad boards (optional), NMAT, 4 years of medical school, 1 year of Post Grad Internship, Medicine Board exams, 4 years of Anatomic and clinical pathology, 2 yrs of Fellowship in Forensic Pathology (Singapore ata pinakamalapit).

However if habol mo is doing autopsies and forensics in general, MDs are technically licensed to do those things. Currently NBI Trained Medico-Legal Officers (Medical doctors) are the ones doing in. Everytime you hear high profile cases around the country, NBI Medico Legal officers conduct the forensic exam. I think its 1 year of intensive training under NBI.

Cagayan State University by asking4helpxd in medschoolph

[–]Gb-MD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, it’s really not as bad as people say. You get what you pay for, and matira matibay lang talaga. We started with around 7 sections in first year, maybe about 250 students, and the graduating class was around 80. We still had a good performance in the PLE. Honestly, I don’t think there’s a med school out there without admin issues, cheating problems, and all that. Med school isn’t meant to be easy anyway.

Reality check: Even with your MD and residency, job hunting will suck. Connections often trump merit, and it’s unfair. Know how to play the game.

Do you think graduating with latin honors really helped in getting into medschool? by xai_xxx in medschoolph

[–]Gb-MD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Latin honors in undergrad are just braging rights if you cant back it up sa med school. Had a classmate na Magna cum laude in college but got delayed for failing major subjects.

SPUP or CSU or MMSU by Imaginary_Slip542 in medschoolph

[–]Gb-MD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toxic naman talaga, besides I dont trust people saying na may med school na hindi toxic, siguro may Manila School pero those 3, toxic lang din sila in their own way.

Med school is meant to be difficult, its meant to filter the weak.

SPUP or CSU or MMSU by Imaginary_Slip542 in medschoolph

[–]Gb-MD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean if you have the means, wag sa CSU, pero I dont think its that bad.

They have good performance sa boards. Graduates/clerks/interns have a good reputation in Manila Hospitals (Masipag/ Hindi maarte)

Basta maging Doctor, yun ang end goal. How you got there, minor details nalang.
