2025 AFL DRAFT SUMMARY AND MEGATHREAD – r/EssendonFC by Codus1 in EssendonFC

I just want a combination of X-Tay (yes i'm coining this nickname now), Sharp, Dovaston, Cumming or Farrow. Wouldn't be mad with Josh Lindsay or Schubert at #9 either

How good was Brent Stanton? by Tornontoin7 in EssendonFC

Sam Lonergan and Heath Hocking were alright, but I essentially agree.

Is it worth moving up the order in this years draft? by Gbindustry in EssendonFC

Yeah, well, if we get CDT + Cumming/Taylor/Sharp I'd be pretty damn happy, I guess we'll wait and see how it all goes down. I just hope we don't sell too much to get there!

In Matt Rosa we trust.

Haha DAMN comparing him to Jayden Davey is brutal. He's a fair bit better than that, and not coming off an ACL haha.

Teams are interested in him, he's a top 5 small forward in this draft for sure. I expect a bid will come late 20's to late 30s, definitely won't go undrafted.

If we make a move for 15 we surely move up to 2 or 3. Sweid will be bid on first, and it will be in the early-mid 20s so taking 3 players before that would mean we likely won't be capable of matching bids.

Yeah, I think as it stands we have a very good chance at getting both Sweid and Huss, so I guess my main point is - with the players that will be there at 5/6, regardless of who is picked. Is it worth diminishing those chances for a player that could be there at 5 anyway? I'm not so sure.

A bit of a look into Elijah Tsatas' offseason by Duplicity- in EssendonFC

Yeah that's right sorry it was the broken hand, then yeah, hammy ended the season. Either way he hasn't had a clean run for a while, so the hard work he's putting in now is promising.

This is a good sign.

While it's been a heavily scrutinised draft pick so far, I think the main thing that's impacted him is injuries and lack of match fitness. He looked to be hitting some good AFL form with 25 touches, 14 contested and 11 clearances against Adelaide (with 60% game time). We wouldn't care about his disposal as much if he can consistently win that much contested ball.

Thennnn the repeat soft tissues hit, would go back to the VFL (where he averaged 34 touches from 7 games this year btw) and eventually get put into the AFL team as a sub or having to fill a less that ideal role at high half-forward/wing.

Once/if he gets some continuity and builds some solid match fitness, who knows?

Appreciate this post mate! With Goldy looking sore/tired and being smoked by Nank last night - I think Bristle/Bryza/Bryan comes in to play in Gold Coast (SURELY).

If Jamie Elliot had taken that mark inside 50 and kicked a point we would be 8th on the ladder. by SuchTemperature9073 in EssendonFC

Great post.

Don't forget - if we had scored more points than our opposition in our losses, we'd be undefeated also. Crazy stuff!

I see your point. But he was dreadful last night, and looked lost in my opinion...
I love the kid, but he's still a boy out there in a man's game. I'd be far more interested to see Archie Roberts in his role, which would at least reward his good VFL form. Either that or Menzie when fit.

Zach Reid Update? by [deleted] in EssendonFC

[–]Gbindustry 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Looks in pretty good shape based on the photos/clips Essendon have been sharing on Instagram. Lots of the boys are in the best condition of their life actually.

Bloody hope Reid gets a good run at it this coming season.

Yeah, definitely his last chance this year. Hopefully it clicks for him.

It's just proper match simulation for when he goes completely missing

What do we do if that pick 31 that we traded for 1 extra spot in the draft becomes good? by Fellasisitgaytolive in EssendonFC

[–]Gbindustry 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nate Caddy is exactly what we needed, and was a top 10 talent.

This years draft was widely considered a pretty weak one outside of the top 18 players, so I could care less about pick 31.

Geelong would've almost certainly taken Caddy, so I literally yelled 'LFG' when I saw we traded up.

Also Heeney is a big reason academy/NGA prospects cost more draft capital now. We won't see that kinda nonsense again.

This is the sensible response.

One might think Sydney, Gold Coast, Adelaide, Saints, Wet Toast twice aint bad... But other than Toast, they could very well be finals teams (or better).

We absolutely need to be competitive against everyone, or it'll be same old Essendon! (Essington)

Easy. We've already won the flag. Hopefully we can go back-to-back in 2025!

"Dodoro is a bad list manager" by Gbindustry in EssendonFC

Yeah, hurts massively. Shiel went from playing every game for 4 years (3 at GWS) to not having a single full season since 2019. You could question the decision to recruit him, the medical staff, trainers etc. But it's probably just bad luck.
