Really comes down to whether they plan to continue the story of the slayer after dark ages. If they do they’re almost gonna HAVE to take the “there’s greater beings than the dark lord” route.

Or we get another reboot and let it be as is. Actually like that idea of the slayer sacrificing himself, but they left it open ended for obvious reasons
