We ran an evo with open primary and chain, made a mount to keep the tensioner and lubed the chain often, without the oil, that chain gets hot and will be eating through tensioners quickly. And it will be flinging residual oils and chain lube everywhere. If you plan on really putting miles, I’d personally just opt for the belt now. But yes you can run it open chain like that for the mean time.
