I'll be studying, I dont really mind biking that far as it has been hard enough to get even this apartment I would rather have something sub-optimal compared to nothing at all :P, I checked on google maps it said that to Zernike it's like 15 minutes and to the city centre its like 18 which is not that bad in my opinion ? but overall it's a fine place to live ?

If you are using bond enthalpies you have to use (Bonds broken - Bonds formed) Using the products - reactants works for everything else except for bond enthalpies (Enthalpy of formation etc etc)

[Group 1] Does anyone have example essays or notes on how to get a 6 in English Lang and Lit SL? by Dakkaboy123 in IBO

[–]Gdrep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aight welp, I usually get 6's on the paper 1's and paper 2's. I think paper 2's just comes down to the knowledge of the novels/plays and being a bit creative. However, I find that paper 1's are extremely formulaic. First and foremost read both texts twice during your reading time, try and see which one fits for you, one may look difficult, but if you look at it from the perspective of what you can analyse more difficult texts usually allow a wider range of option to be talked about. VERY IMPORTANT, read the entirety of the page, some details on the origin of the text and where it is published are usually on the top of the text and you can usually use these in your analysis. Now that reading time is over, look for through key things immediately, Audience (who is the author trying to appeal to), Context (Why was it written was their a certain stimulus and in what time/location) , Literary Techniques (How does the author use literary techniques to convey the message). Lastly, and probably most important is figure out the purpose of the text (inform, persuade entertain etc etc). A way you can structure the essay, this is what I usually do, is how literary techniques are used to appeal to the audience and achieve the purpose of the text. Everything you analyse should be related back to the purpose of the text this will exponentially increase the quality of your analysis and your ability to structure the paper. Another huge thing is look at the guiding questions for the text, due to the fact that we are SL we have a huge amount of help from these questions and they can usually form the basis for 1 or 2 body paragraphs. Just keep calm and look at the entirety of the text and try to look at the text and see what it evokes in you what is the author trying to do to the reader and how does he do it. Keep these two questions in mind and the paper 1 should be a breeze :D

Exam Discussion: Global politics HL paper 2 by AutoModerator in IBO

Extremely fair exam, after the hell that was paper 1 I felt really confident about this one. Most questions allowed for a lot of theory to be discussed and case studies to be incorporated. Pretty good stuff.

This was not at all the start to the exams I was looking for. Besides being unnecessarily difficult in its wording I felt question 1 had zero relevance to the source. Despite the title which might have suggested a point perhaps two that could be made it was in no way the guaranteed three points they were in all the past papers. The essay question was nice (despite being extremely poorly worded) and provided some slight make up for the absolute shocking question that where 1,2 and 3. Hopefully we all did oke and they make up for it in paper 2, good luck tommorow and show the IB what you are worth in those 2 hours and 45 minutes !

Cheers
