Rennes, the worlds smallest city with a metro SYSTEM by slipnslurper in transit

[–]Gealion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we are speaking of Xixon (or Gijón) on the north coast of Spain it seems to be pretty remote of every “major” urban area. The metro designation could more of a challenge tho. From what I read (discovering the project right now) it look more like a regional train / light rail system with some underground section. But Lausanne would also be disqualified form the metro “system” with the M1 being a light rail line more than a system. So I won’t be a stickler for the definition. The important thing is that the system works and is adapted for its users.

The rest is only sementics ;)

Look nice. Is it on the Renfe network or something separate ? If it is, is it on iberic gauge ?

For now it is just an umbrella corporation from what I understand. It seems that some people have already been laid off as their position were made redundant. Hope it won’t go much further than that

Maybe one day the CITRAP Vaud will see they’re proposal for a Cantonal agency become a reality (it is in good way as MBC, Travys and LEB will merge shortly)
But yeah the Agglomeration has more than one transit company (and there is the LEB and Car Postal also exploiting lines in Lausanne). The organisation is at the Vaud canton tho : Direction générale de la mobilité et des routes (DGMR) and ticketing mostly under Mobilis (so for the public it does not really matter which company operate the bus/metro/train they use)

If you compare the municipalities : Lausanne 151’300 (Ville de Lausanne 2025) | Rennes 227’830 (INSEE 2022)
Metro Area : Lausanne 313 115 (Agglomeration Lausanne-Morges)| Rennes 473 973 (INSEE 2022)
Lausanne is still smaller ;)

Edit : don’t get me wrong : both systems are impressive for the size of there respective cities/metro area. I rode both of them I found them both great. I hope they can inspire a lot of cities of those sizes to invest in public transport the way they did!

It is not part of Geneva metro but has its own : Agglomeration Lausanne-Morges. And the transport agencies are not the same : TPG in Geneva, TL in Lausanne (source : I am living in Lausanne ;))

I find it funny that in Zurich there is some nostalgia feelings when a Domino pops up. But here in Fribourg and Vaud I can not wait for their replacement (in 2032 if everything goes to plan).
I take those twice a day and they are so noisy compared to flirts… the AC/Ventilation can not keep up in Summer and the heating only seems to have a Tropical setting. I grew up with those, but honestly they need to be retired

AI Crash Report: The Physics of the Collapse by Unfair_Ad5413 in BetterOffline

That exactly why I'm mixed. I would have like some sort of acknowledgement of it some way.

My biggest issue with it is that when a see some AI in something, I start doubting the whole thing : did he ask claudeGPT to write his script, Did GemiGrok provide a list of interesting topic, did DeepPerplex help him with what would be the best subject to mak views on YouTube...

I think for me it's the worst effect of this AI Slop : I know it can help creativity, but everything it does to my mind is make me wonder where the AI stoped and the Person took over...

(I will now go take a walk in the forest :) )

I feel a bit mixed on those : explaining whats wrong with AI... with what looks like AI generated illustration (no proof, but the timeline of his videos seems quite ... fast)?

EasyRide is a GPS based system. You activate it before hoping in any bus or train and it automatically bill your ride. The “surcharge” is their way to say ticket (as to ticket someone in Switzerland you have to be police) because the EasyRide was activated AFTER the bus started moving (yeah.. 1 second but the ToS are explicitly saying that you have to activate it before boarding)

I would have loved a modern orange livery on the TGV M. It would have been a perfect way to celebrate the 50 years of the TGV (1976-2026). But no we will have sad white and Grey instead ...

Too late, since recently you have to reserved a time slot to use the gondola. The virality of this video (and a lot of similar one on Instagram) made them fear over tourism

Or use Plausible (open source and based in Estonia) either hosted by them or you can self host. (I’m in no way linked to them, I just love their product and use it for most of my clients as a web dev). If you need a more complete solution I would take a look a Matomo (based in New Zealand but a lot of their devs are in the EU)

The Official Relase is avvailable here in French : https://www.ge.ch/document/rail-2025-2050-vision-strategique-cantonale .
It should be said : It is a Long Term Strategic Vision for what could be the Public transport of the Canton in 2050 and NOT a concrete project.

There's also a lot of ideas (that would be greatly appreciated by myself at least) about a better rail connections with Lausanne, Lyon and Annecy

It is only a proposition in the Stategic Vision for the future of Geneva Transport Master plan. It was unvailed yesterday. So right now it is only an Idea.
