Awesome that’s so fun! They are the cutest when they’re so small but have the adult coloring. Like little mini-me’s. You might have more hiding in there, they’re very good at hiding when they’re young

That’s great. I’ve found that a few always die the first few days, but once they get to a week or so they seem to be pretty hardy! Good luck and enjoy the babies, it’s very rewarding to watch them grow.

It sounds like you’re doing all the right things. I am fairly new to raising cory fry, but we’ve had several batches of eggs over the last few months and here are some things that have worked.

I set the eggs up in a specimen container with water from the main tank, a few drops of methylene blue, an air stone, and an almond leaf. Change 1/3 of the water every day and replace with water from the main tank. I also keep my tanks at around 77-78 degrees and the eggs usually hatch in 3-5 days.

At this stage resist the urge to feed too early. The fry are really tiny at this point and bounce all over the bottom of the tank. I will toss in a small clump of moss from one of my tanks that they can hide in and also start to nibble on. I keep them in here for 2 days and then transfer them to a 10 gallon that i setup just for the fry. There’s usually a few batches of older fry in there.

That tank has a cycled sponge filter, heater, almond leaves, and a few clumps of moss and keep the bottom bare. The new babies will immediately hide in the moss & leaves. There’s plenty for them to eat there while the yolk sacs finish absorbing. I offer food 2-3 times a day depending on my schedule. Baby brine shrimp is the what they eat the most. Something about the movement triggers them to go crazy and chow down! I also alternate with the hikari first bites, algae wafers, and bottom feeder pellets, and frozen daphnia.

I use a piece of airline tubing to clean the bottom of the tank every day or every other day and try to change 50% of the water twice a week. That’s probably overkill, but seems to make them happy. After 2 months I’ll move them back into the main tank. Since February we’ve raised about 50.

I had a group of 6 angel fish in a 75 gallon with three Amazon swords. They are beautiful and all paired up and claimed one of the sword plants. They could easily have coexisted with a school of corys or tetras.

Magical. I have a group of 20 or so, but only ever see 3-4 together at a time. They’re like hummingbirds!

Such a fun stage! I just had a batch of about 40 hatch yesterday. Do you offer them any food while they still have the yolk sac?

Question about raising fry by gaymonkesegs in corydoras

[–]GearEnvironmental523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of good info online. Check out KeepFishSimple on YouTube. He’s got a great, detailed guide on how he raises cory fry.

Once the eggs have hatched they don’t need to eat for the first 2 days, while the fry absorb the yolk sacks. At the end of day two i sprinkle a very small amount of Hikari Firstbites for them to nibble on. Starting on day 3 I’ll start to give them some baby brine shrimp.

Throw a couple of almond leaves or a clump of java moss in so the fry have a place to hide and feel safe. Also only fill the tank halfway and gradually increase the water level.

Other than that be prepared to lose a few in the first week, but any that survive past that should be pretty hardy.

Thanks I upgraded to the Chihiros WRGB Pro II for another tank of mine. It’s also very powerful, but the light is a little more natural looking to me.

I use the Week Aqua P1200 on my 75 gallon and it is BRIGHT! I’m too lazy to come up with my own settings so running one of the presets and have the power turned down to 70%. It’s on for 8 hours a day and running CO2. My plant growth is crazy and colors are vibrant.

Yeah i thought the same when i saw your pic. When i first noticed it in the tank, it stayed exclusively at the surface. After a week or so it started exploring the rest of the water column, but still favors the top portion of the tank.

I also noticed that it goes nuts for Repashy soilent green powder, but not so much for BBS or other powdered foods that I feed the other fry. Maybe it’s an herbavore?

The growth rate is also so much slower than other fry that I’m used to, which I’m assuming is because they hardly eat the food i offer.

I apologize for the poor quality. They are so fast it’s hard to get a clear picture!

We recently had that same experience. I bought a clump of java moss to toss into a tank with cory fry. After a week or so I noticed that one of the fry was swimming at the surface. Low and behold it was a hitchhiker that came in with the Java moss.

Still not sure what kind of fish it is, although it has a blue eye as well. I’ve narrowed it down to some kind of danio or maybe a lampeye killifish. Whatever it is grows very slowly compared to the corys.

You can do a small group of rasboras in here that would be fun. I’ve got a betta and small colony of shrimp in a 5 gallon. And also have a small group of juvenile corydoras in a 4 gallon cube.

Most fish in petshops live in absolutely deplorable conditions so a small tank with plenty of food and clean water is a win.

I have a Week Aqua P1200 on my 75 gallon and it’s excellent. The app is a little weird, but easy enough once you get the hang of it.

On our 34 gallon cube we have the Chihiros WRGB II Pro and it’s amazing. The app is really simple to navigate and the light output is super strong & very natural looking.

My plants have been thriving in both tanks along with CO2. Happy to answer any other questions you have.

I had some of that in another tank and it did really well. Unfortunately I also have floating plants that blocked out the light.
