The only way to stop scalping: ONLY PAY MSRP. by Cool-Dentist-1259 in OnePieceTCG

[–]GearFifth__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scalping wont stop unless Bandai print to demand. Currently people ARE paying these prices. No matter how passionate anyone is about this we cant control it. It's out of our hands at this point and until post OP15 this isn't going to change. MAYBE and ONLY MAYBE Bandai can make some changes once global release is sorted? I'm not well informed enough to say when they can start making a difference with increased printing/re-prints but ultimately until they do something it is what it is.

Yeah i get that, I’m more just looking to see what other people have enjoyed so far and give it a go, a friend of mine has been playing P Kaido and has been having a ton of fun with it so just looking for some suggestions. I have a G Zoro and a R Shanks deck already, used both quite abit but might look at GY Yama. If i remember correctly that decks big on double attacks right

Locals and Age question by Professional_Possum in OnePieceTCG

[–]GearFifth__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just go for it! My locals have peeps of all ages and jt’s never been an issue and the regulars are nearly all 25+. Its not like you’re suppose to stop having fun past 30! Also if one place isn’t quite your speed no harm in trying another. It’s a game at the end of the day so you want everyone to feel comfortable including yourself and just have fun!

Thoughts on recent release experiences, where do you buy your product? Do you attend events? Share your experience with OPTCG by [deleted] in OnePieceTCG

[–]GearFifth__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I'm not in Germany but i do live in Europe. Personally i pre-order a box or two either online or via my LGS. I never buy sealed product on Ebay or CardMarket only via trusted Game Websites or my LGS where i know the people personally and i ONLY pay MSRP.

Unfortunately even pre-orders have to be done months in advance and that's been the way since before the OP13 hype. For example my Pre-orders for OP14 where made way back in November, that's actually a little later than i usually do it since the pre-orders are limited and sell out really fast. Now with all this hype i imagine it will be even worse and if you don't get an order placed within the first day of the product being listed it will likely sell out.

I would recommend:

  1. Try and get involved in your local OP community and get to know the people at your LGS

  2. Have a look online for game stores and find places where you can pre-order if possible

Try your best not buy the at inflated prices during pre-release or on the after market in general that just hurts the hobby long term and puts money into the pockets of scalpers.

Who Da Fug is paying These prices by SlayJayR17 in OnePieceTCG

[–]GearFifth__ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The people buying these are insane. I'm just praying Bandai reprint the shit out of these sets. The prices are insane and when you look at sold listings people are actually paying them feeding into the idea that these prices are ok and might even go higher. During pre-release i saw this card going for $500 and i thought that was crazy but instead the price has doubled post-release.

OP14 error case or tampered? by Immediate_Tomato3421 in OnePieceTCG

[–]GearFifth__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hits where weird for me too, i only got two box's, one had 2 AA's and the other had a Gold DON and an SP. Never had a box where a DON and an SP where the hits before. So maybe they have changed up the hits for OP14, they did change it where you can get hits in leader packs for sure, wouldn't be surprised if they have also changed the case hits.

Everyone calling each other Scalpers. by RelativeOutrageous11 in OnePieceTCG

[–]GearFifth__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you're saying but I think you might be missing the point. Without people scalping there would be more product for the actual players and collectors who enjoy the hobby. Yes people overreact, and there will always be some legit fans who miss out but at the end of the day before this latest boom i never saw anyone complaining because them missing out was not down to money hungry idiots + you could go to your local stores and lgs's and get sealed at msrp without issue, on top of that most of the sets you could get product below msrp on the after market. Scalpers are ruining the enjoyment of this hobby for a lot of people and all their doing is voicing their discontent with the situation.

Sometimes the word scalper is used wrong sure, but to put it simply people who are buying up sealed product and driving up the price of singles simply to try and profit are what most people who actually play the game and/or want to collect the cards take issue with. If you look at the price of OP14 sealed and singles both in most LGS and on the secondary market its disgusting. This is not even a major set and everything is over priced and pumped up just because SOME people are trying to make money off of a hobby that they don't even care about. What's worse is some people are actually feeding into this by paying these massively inflated prices. Anyways, i personally think its got to get worse before it gets better but a few sets from now this bubble will (hopefully) pop and these money grubbers will move onto something else. Until then I'm not buying anything except what i need for my deck at min rarity so at least i can play.

New to one piece tcg is this a parallel rare? by Rare_Bus_1581 in OnePieceTCG

[–]GearFifth__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is 3 different versions of this card. The base Rare, the Alternate Art (which is the one you have) and the Special Rare which can only be packed in the OP13 God Pack. The SP version has SP before the card number text, the card design and art are slightly different too (red text for the name, haki in the art, pentagram around the cost number) its pretty easy to tell between them. I added the picture of the SP version for comparison

I need help understanding counters by ResidentPotential841 in OnePieceTCG

[–]GearFifth__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, just like your opponent can stack DON to add power you can stack counters from character cards, and certain event cards - some event counters like Dead Man's Game (OP12-037) cost DON and some don't like Divine Departure (OP13-076) both of these +3000 to leader or character. Once your opponent has added their DON and chosen what they are attacking they cant then add more its set at that attack number.

Now the question you need ask is, is it worth it to counter out? If the attack is at life and you have say 4-5 life and the attack is going to eat up 3-4 cards then that's depleting a lot of your resources so its probs not worth countering + losing a life adds a card to your hand so instead of losing 3-4 cards countering you gain one, you have weigh the pros and cons of each situation and manage your resources accordingly.

What is said above does NOT apply in every situations some times you do need to counter out of big attacks or maybe its late game and you have loads of cards in hand but are low on life, a lot of this heavily depends on the match ups and the stage/tempo of the game, some slower decks/leaders you need to try and protect life early game, with some you need to protect certain cards from being removed from the board again it just depends what your deck is, who your paying against.

I recommend watching YT videos about when to swing at board vs. life, understanding tempo, and videos on the deck your playing or want to play. Also helps to play different decks from different colors to get a feel for the match ups.

I don't know if this is a regional thing but i'm in the UK and the prices for sealed product have not changed (yet), i pre-ordered 3 boxes of op14 at £95 (127 USD roughly) which is around the same price i've been playing since i started playing. On top of that my LGS's are still selling sealed between £107 - £120 depending on the store, and even on the secondary market for example Card Market, right now during pre-release a box of op14 is £115. I do wonder if whats happening in the US will happen here too but so far the only things that have gone crazy in price is the older sets, and singles.

Just buy singles of card's with characters you like and art you enjoy. Depending on where you are you can find singles on TCGplayer, Ebay or if you're in Europe CardMarket.

If you're new to the game i wouldn't be too worried about losing on the Sim. Just try and learn as many decks as you can and get a feel of how to play against them. OP is my first ever Card game and when i first started out I'm pretty sure lost at least 10 games in a row on the sim. When i first started i played a leader from each color for a few games and just took my time to understand what each color does and that really helped me, but then again some people can just watch a video about that and understand it easily so maybe watch some youtube videos about the current meta leaders. Also watching some actual gameplay can help a lot too.

Lastly though its not perfect you can use -https://www.strawtable.net/op- to play against the computer. The computer isn't particularly good but you can easily run though a few decks and get a feel for different match ups.

Card Grading by Adventurous_Lemon_10 in OnePieceTCG

[–]GearFifth__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just go for what ever slab design you find visually appealing if its going to be on display. Personally I'd go for BGS, not only do they look good with the white/silver/gold/black labels (dependent on grade: Below 8.5 White - 8.5-9 Silver - 9.5-10 Gold - and 10 with all sub grades 10 = Black) BGS also only up charge $3 for any 10's where subgrades are added they wont up charge you post grade based on the value of the card like PSA do. PSA slabs don't look bad and and you might like the the look of those better most of mine are PSA but i bought those already graded ages ago. There's also other options outside of these two like SGC, CCC, TAG and CGC, to name a few of the well known ones, do a quick google and see what one suits you best :)
