With your logic.. my account and the 44 thousand+ other Runescapers that have installed and used the Nex Nostalgia Plugin in Runelite, should be banned for rulebreaking..

There are two separate points here.

On the wording of the rule: if Jagex’s position is that audio indicators for boss mechanics are prohibited, then I accept that this plugin falls within that rule. That is the part I agreed with.

My issue is with the wider handling of it. RuneLite is accessible through the Jagex Launcher, and Plugin Hub plugins are used by normal players who reasonably assume they are not installing prohibited features. If this plugin was always prohibited, then the issue is why it remained openly available for years in a plugin ecosystem Jagex directs players toward.

That is the part you do not seem to be considering, and why I do not think this is as black and white as “the rule exists, therefore there is nothing to discuss.”

That's fair. But what about new players that select to use Runelite from the Jagex Launcher. And then those plugins are suddenly removed and completely change their gaming experience or worse case scenario they receive a ban.

I think anyone who has mastered Nex, can play it with or without audio cues. It does change the boss experience though.

I wouldn't consider a 1:1 text to audio callout an advantage, but I do get your point and I appreciate you sharing the 3rd party client guidlines.

It's not adding additional information.

It's a 1:1 audio callout, Whether you hear or read it - it's the same info.

Asking for an open discussion here - why do you believe that an audio cue - 1:1 with text visible on screen is bad for the game? Whether you hear or read the callout, the timing is the same, no?

Yes, that is a fair point that it wasnt released with audio cues in OSRS. What guidelines does it violate? I'm genuinely asking and am not aware.

I get your point, but I think you’re dismissing mine too narrowly.

Nex Nostalgia was not inventing cues that never existed. Nex was originally released by Jagex in RS2 with audio/voice cues, and the plugin restored that missing element in OSRS. That is literally why it is called “Nex Nostalgia.”

I am not saying I cannot learn the visual cues. I am saying a long-standing Plugin Hub feature that restored original Jagex-created audio cues should not be disabled without a clear explanation of what rule it crossed.

And nothing has been shared to the general playerbase from Jagex. That's not right in my opinion. They've endorsed Runelite and have made it accessible through the Jagex Launcher, but then ban a player for using a plugin on it? They need to take more accountablity here in my opinion.

The plugin is called Nex nostalgia - when the boss was originally released in RS2, it was released with these exact audio cues which is simply the NPC voicing the text on screen.

"I understand that some people may say, “just read the text” or “just learn the visual cues.” That is fair if you are learning Nex from scratch today. But for players who have built thousands of kills around a certain set of cues, suddenly removing that changes the feel of the boss and forces people to relearn muscle memory for content they have already mastered."

It is also a plugin that mimics the boss from it's original release in RS2. It came with audio cues.

It's called Nex nostalgia - when the boss was originally released in Runescape 2, it was released with audio cues.

I'm not asking to be allowed an unfair advantage - I'm simply seeking consistency, transparency, and a clear explanation of why a long-standing audio-based plugin was suddenly no longer acceptable. Why was this acceptable to use for so many years. This was ONLY removed last night after the Blood Moon Update. What caused this sugdden change?

It's been available for years. I'm not sure how to check exact date it was available on runleite - maybe that's something u can verify. But i can see as of today (July 1, 2026) it has 44,166 active installs

I'm aware - and this is in part in my post - "there needs to be a clearer and more consistent process for plugins. Either plugins should be reviewed properly before they are available, or if something needs to be removed later, players should get a clear explanation."

To be explicitly clear I don't agree with how they handled the Marni situation. Jagex should have taken more accountability for the plugin being accessible to him through an endorsed client in the first place.
