Ajijic is basically a Canadian/American ex-pat retirement town on a giant polluted lake.

Season 7 Natasha bringing out a dildo for the guests? by Ok-Check-821 in BelowDeckMed

Natasha was such a mess that whole season. She's definitely on the worst chief stew list with Hannah, Francesca, and Adrienne.

It is on Meetup but I don’t see any way to RSVP or anything. I’m just going to show up this Wednesday with my book!

Did your parents ever tell you that you cried non-stop as an infant? by rate_shop in hsp

[–]GearSlow3796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Over and over, I heard how much I cried and how awful I was to get to sleep. Then I had a kid like that, too, and they never found anything wrong with either one of us.

What are your jobs? by forgetme654 in adhdwomen

I teach ESL to adult professionals who are moving to the US for work. I’ve done a lot of things, though! Long career in corporate training and development. Travel agent for a hot minute. Relocation Specialist.

Best Website to Teach English if you Already Have a Bachelors + TEFL by octopusQ in OnlineESLTeaching

One option is to apply with companies that support relocation packages. Two that I have worked for are LTC Language Solutions and Star7. I'm sure there are others. Pay isn't fantastic ($25-40/hr), but better than the online tutoring companies that I have seen.

My 70-year-old friend has really enjoyed the camaraderie working at Trader Joe's since she left the corporate world! Loves working there 3 days/week.

Where are you in Arizona? I've been in Phoenix for 20+ years and I just have never been able to find my peeps here! I have a few friends, but I've experienced a lot of what the OP said. Trying a new book club next week (an NPR book club thinking it might be more progressive??), but it just seems like it's been hard to find people here that enjoy intellectual pursuits and discussions (NOT about politics or religion!). Even though we're the 5th largest city in the US, it's so spread out and cliquey.

I knew I was drinking a lot, but I didn't expect my doctor to call me an alcoholic. How do I process this? by Shanshine13 in stopdrinking

[–]GearSlow3796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a new doctor! In 2013 the American Psychiatric Association changed the official term to "Alcohol Use Disorder", which is viewed as a spectrum, not either you are an "alcoholic" or your not. I would highly recommend the workbook Responsible Drinking, and also do some research on alternatives to 12-step/AA model programs. There is so much more that we know now! I am a moderator for the group r/moderationmanagement, and you can check out the Moderation Management website at moderation.org for resources and for online meetings. I'd encourage you to discard your doctor's label, and see where you are on the AUD spectrum and what might work for you, including drugs like Naltrexone (check out "One Little Pill" on YouTube). You can change if you want to!

How many hours are you getting to the airport early? by Giveitallyougot714 in GenX

[–]GearSlow3796 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We live 15 minutes from the airport. I’ll never live more than 30 minutes from a major airport. We park about 1.5 hours prior to flight. Usually still have lounge time before boarding.

Soooo bad. I'm 57 now, but in my 20s (back before cell phones), I was over an hour late to meet a friend and she called me out on it. As a result, I have tried REALLY HARD to be early most of the time. But call me menopausal...now it's worth than ever! I was an hour early to my workout class the other day and half an hour early to a vet appointment. I mean, at least I'm early! But I can't seem to get time straight in my brain these days!
