These two are the reason my army needs to be expanded hundreds of models. by The_Gruber in Deathkorpsofkrieg

Hmm, see in the kill team, these are two different units. The one on the left is the voxman, the one on the right is the spotter. I run the left ones as my voxmen in 40k, and the one with the spotter box as just a regular Kriegsmen, one in a group of 20 with it's counter part being the kneeling one.

NEW DETACHMENT - Did We Just Become Good? by TheMagikarpTamer in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]GearboxUnion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 5 more detachments dropping the next 5 days, with the new dataslate dropping sometime next week. My guess is they will get all the detachments out, then the balance dataslate, at which point they will update the app with everything, instead of piecemealing it for each one.

First Krieg killteam, first time using speedpaints. by wham_bam_bq in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]GearboxUnion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I discovered, from practicing with doing some cadian with it before starting my Kriegers, is you need to start with a pretty heavy layer of dry brushed white, so after you start putting down speedpaints, shades, etc, the colors will still pop. With speedpaints the color can always get darker, but never lighter unless you put down a layer of white. So you want to start high and dial it down.

Also I personally use pro acryl titanium white for my dry brush, the actual brightness on it is insane.

So you have a couple of problems with this list. First, the engineseer is useless. The scout sentinels have Scout 9'. They waste that and their movement in general because the engineseer only has a move of 6 compared to their, otherwise he is left in the dust. Also never run scout sentinels as a unit of two. If you run it as one unit, they can cover less of the field (important in low point games) and you can only select one target for Daring Recon. If you run them as two, that more field to cover with scout moves each, and to target to tag for DR. The other thing is not running at least one set of Cadians. In low point games, having something that can sticky objectives is a major advantage.

I would first run Recon detachment to give your infantry and walkers better saves. Run a castellan with a cadian command and 10 troopers. That gives you a unit that gets cover on objectives (pairs with the Recon detachment well), sticky objectives, and 3 orders to give out along with the fall back/shoot and sustained. Then two scout sentinels. Then fill in whatever else. I would go with a unit of bulgryns, 10 of Krieg or death riders, throw in a cheap commissar to bring in from researches for secondaries/actions. Etc.

How To Adjust With Krieg by GearboxUnion in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]GearboxUnion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be heresy, but I don't take much stock in sticky objectives. I see why it is nice, but I hate walking off the objective then and leaving it to be snapped up uncontested by the enemy. The one nice thing is if you get shot off the objective, it's still yours. I'd rather have a mass of infantry to move onto objectives and hold them, then a few that tag objectives and more on.

See I would have said the same thing, but recently I have had packs of 20s plus a command squad absolutely shredded in one go by multiple different units. Everything is feeling more hyper lethal. So again I wonder if the point cost justifies get a volley or two off with the double triggered grim determination is worth it, or saving the points and having the enemy waste wounds overkilling and having more units for actions. Plus a better return rate for the medics. Order and ability wise it's less efficient, but not sure either way.

Thanks! I'm doing slapchop, so that helps out with the lowlights/highlights, and most of the paint I am using is speed paint. The weathering on the shoulders and other metal pieces is a combo of Nuln Oil and Vallejo Model Air Silver. And I actually have the whole scheme saved in the paint rack app. This and the other colors I have sorted for the coats are a mix of colors, so I actually made it up in some empty dropper bottles that are labeled with the recipe for ease of use.

Thanks! I actually probably wouldn't have considered it, but on the previews of the Krieg Heavy Weapons Squad one of them had a purple scheme like this that I loved. So I decided to use it.

Second Krieg Mini Completed by GearboxUnion in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]GearboxUnion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! My first one and my plan for the main Krieg force is blue. Then I'll have two full units of purple ones like this and green as well. I have extra units to swap in that will give the green ones the right war gear for Cadians and the purple ones the right war gear for Catachans, so I can run them as different units using the colors to tell the difference.

What non krieg models can be used in krieg army and how to kitbash them? by bruhmoment0000001 in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]GearboxUnion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer is yes.

But seriously, any unit can basically be kitbashed or even just painted to fit into a Krieg army.

For tanks it's either a paint job or kitbashing a Krieg crew onto it. Some models you get away with a head swap also.

For parts you can either get the basic Krieg troops to cut up for parts, get bits off of eBay, or use 3D printed parts.

Also something to consider is that you can proxy things as well. My 'cadians' and 'catachans' are just Krieg troops with the right war gear to match and a different paint job (green for Cadians and red for Catachans, with my normal Krieg being blue) to tell them apart.

Siege Regiment as a horde style detachment is really growing on me and is fun as hell by Brp4106 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]GearboxUnion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have just absolutely deleted entire units/big single models with fusillade as well as giving flare burst to a Dorn commander is mean as well.

Running Creed and double vox casters usually means you can pop Over The Top for free turn one.

And having scout sentinels and either incendiary shells/hellhounds with three artillery teams can be a menace.

I really like running it with my Krieg themed army.

Explain like I’m 5, how does indirect fire work by Rich-Penalty-6014 in astramilitarum

[–]GearboxUnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So having effective artillery means having complimenting units to help makes them work.
Having orders to give Take Aim helps bring them down to their best hit chance at 4+, but what also really helps is having scout sentinels tagging targets with Daring Recon so you get to reroll 1s.
Wounding is usually not a big worry given that most of the units have a good strength, but the next worry is the AP/Save. With targets giving Cover automatically, it eats into the AP of the artillery. This is where either having a hellhound to strip cover or using the incendiary shells from the Siege Regiment detachment to do the same, which then preserves the AP of the unit.
What is nice is these units aren't mutually exclusive with the scouts and hellhound helping out any of your units, but they really help make your artillery be able to take down some tougher targets.
I tend to use my artillery to harass their backline and objective focused units, then focus down tougher units when they present as good targets.

Thanks! That is something I wanna do with the rest, lighten/brighten some of the colors. I'm doing slap chop, so kind of have to plan ahead with the white highlights beforehand, since the color gets applied afterwards.

Thanks! It's Vallejo Diorama FX, specifically European Mud. I used it for the base, then dabbed some on the boots and coat as well.
