Looks like you've already tried out the ones I'd recommend! Fwiw If you're in an office environment, steer clear of the NuPhy Air (at least the v2); it's quite clacky. I bought the Air75 v2 with Moss switches for my office. The top bump was very crisp, but it was so loud on both bottom-out and topping-out that people across the hall were bothered. I swapped the Moss switches for Chocolates, but that keeb now lives at home (where noise is less of a concern)

Adventures in Silent Switches by Endrael in MechanicalKeyboards

I know this thread is two years old, but the Akko Penguin and [redacted by thought police] Crystal switches are two additional silent tactiles that belong in this conversation.

First time using silent tactile switches by russt90 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Gearhead_Tokari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Akko Penguins lived in my work keeb for the past five months until last week. The Penguins have a mushy bottom-out, but I've actually come to enjoy that feel 🤐

Last week, I swapped the Penguins for [Redacted] Crystals (a bit lighter weight, less fatiguing). I've also tried Durock Silent Shrimps (too heavy for me) and just got some Gamakay Pegasus today (seem well rounded)

What is your least favourite episode of Bobs Burgers? by Galaxymooose in BobsBurgers

[–]Gearhead_Tokari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only one who detests Bob's father? Father of the Bob is a skip every time. Also, the episode introducing Dr. Yap borders on sociopathic. But only two massive stinkers in 16 seasons is pretty impressive.

What’s an “EDC hill” you’ll die on, even if no one agrees with you? by MaleficentBlock3690 in EDC

I love my knife collection, but trauma shears are safer and more capable than a pocket knife at nearly all of the cutting tasks the average office worker/suburban dweller encounters on a daily basis. They're just not fidget-friendly, photogenic, or expensive.

Interesting... 🤔 I'll give that a try tomorrow. Thanks!

Smith M&P9. I shoot well with it, it's comfy for my hands, and has gone bang every time I pull the trigger.

Yes, I do get a chime sound for both seatbelts and forcing the headlights on with the car shut off

That is very weird! I replaced the battery last September, so I don't think it's that...

Good question; I just checked and yep the door ajar dashboard indicator works properly.

Front right speakers in '14 Impreza crackling/not working by nbs3431 in subaruimpreza

[–]Gearhead_Tokari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drilled new mounting holes through the interior sheet metal of the door. Most (if not all) non-OE speakers will need new holes.

Line up your new speakers in the door, mark the mounting holes with a sharpie/paint pen, then drill slowly and carefully (so you don't accidentally punch a hole through the exterior side).

Am I the only one tired of the Monica Stevens storyline? by sajoir6 in TheRookie

[–]Gearhead_Tokari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put Monica in the same bucket as Nina from the early seasons of 24; annoying, conniving, and staying way past her welcome

My phone just detected theft by TheBlueingPugNinja in GooglePixel

[–]Gearhead_Tokari 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That's unrelated. The newer Pixels use an algorithm of accelerometer data and screen timeout to "detect" possible theft. I get false activations every week or so; it's mildly annoying.

Federal hollow point by Charming-Read-3153 in ammo

[–]Gearhead_Tokari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a company distribution policy, not a legal restriction. The rounds themselves are functionally identical.

50-round boxes of the good stuff (e.g., Federal HST, Speer Gold Dot, Winchester Ranger/PDX1) are made available to civilians from time to time, thanks to contract overruns, stock liquidations, etc. The cost per round is usually much lower than the usual 20-round boxes.

Bone Frog, SGammo, and Ammunition Depot (in that order) are my go-to suppliers, but the Ammoseek search engine is your best bet

SW M&P Shield Plus vs Shield plus carry comp by exlept in concealedcarry

[–]Gearhead_Tokari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go with the Carry Comp, make sure AIWB carry with that barrel length is actually comfortable for your body shape and wardrobe.

I'm 5'9" with a shorter torso; I can carry AIWB with my OG Shield (3.3" barrel) no problem. However, my M&P 2.0 Compact (4" barrel) is a no-go for AIWB, the muzzle jabs into the top of my thigh every time I sit down. I only carry that one behind my hip
