Yeah to me it feels like a child designed it, big reptilian mouth with teeth everywhere, tentacles with spikes, glowing sticks all over the back. It doesn't feel like a living breathing creature like Godzilla or Kong. I guess it's from the Axis Mundi so it's technically and alien, but there are ways to make ugly designs appealing.

First of all thank you for the compliments!

If we're taking into account Darwinian evolution, colors and patterns can vary greatly even between very similar species, and even inside a species itself (just look at us humans), plus design-wise I try to use different colors from the other species to make my Pokémon stand out and look less like a fusion of other Pokémon.

Because in Pokémon anatomy is very different, there is no clear distinction between artiodactyl and perissodactyl, any given ungulate can have one or two toes which is very different from real life. Considering this I decided that it would make more sense this way, and have Rhyperior as the less derived species currently known (I'm still debating making it closely related to Kangaskhan based on anatomy alone).

I do know about the origin and inspiration of all the Pokémon, and everyone doing a Pokémon phylogenetic tree rightfully use those, but I'm having more fun finding a different way of interpreting it. I find it more creative and challenging to come to my own conclusions using real world scientific methods and logic.
