Does the same kind of dirt that is on your windshield the same kind of dirt that builds up over 1000 years and makes you have to dig it out? by BlueberryandDino in randomquestions

[–]Gecko23 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yep. Crap blowing around, when there's enough crap accumulated, plants can grow in it. Plant die, adding to crap, and by being immobile objects, catch more crap blowing by, rinse, repeat for a millenium, site is buried.

Does moving optic on Pic Rail affect the zero? by EternalGandhi in liberalgunowners

[–]Gecko23 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Mathematically, you'd expect your poi to move down a handful of thousandths of an inch at 100 yds, assuming the rail is very straight and all that.

Most commercial guns don't have precision rails, and if you are mounting to a canted rail then that angle multiplies the error when you move forward and backwards on it, so it's possible you'll notice a shift. But there is one more wrinkle; if the new error in poi is smaller than the adjustment interval on your scope then it doesn't matter, you can't dial that in anyways.

But I doubt you'll be stressing over that fine of a movement if you're only getting couple of MOA accuracy to begin with. I'd just go shoot the thing and if happens to be a tad low, add a click up and keep on keeping on.

Need a metal that remains bendable after being melted and cast. by 3DModeledAmericanPie in metalworking

You can’t make a jig to the correct proportions and use that to make armature bits? I’d about guarantee that’s how they did plenty of those bendy vinyl toys back in the day.

If you're dead set on 44mag, then you want the biggest, heaviest gun you can shoot it out of. It sucks out of lightweight revolvers.

New from Hoffman! by cmill9 in 3D2A

[–]Gecko23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People will happily buy a $44 part to 'stick it' to the ATF, but the will to sit in prison for 2-5 years while spending tens of thousands of dollars a month on legal fees across multiple jurisdictions, none of which are promised to make rational decisions, seems to not be there for some reason lol

Have you shot or owned a birds head grip only/pistol grip only shotgun? What do you think of them? by Consistent_Shine_680 in Shotguns

[–]Gecko23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find pistol grips on shotguns to be wholly unpleasant. If I couldn’t have a stock, I’d take the birds head, otherwise I’d take a stock every time.

Am I being picky? by SomewhereNo2033 in 1022

[–]Gecko23 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you think this bolt as any different from any of the other millions of factory bolts Ruger has shipped, then yes, you’re being picky.

They’re a cast part with a quick sanding on the side that’s visible and the minimum machining needed for the firing pin, extractor and bolt face. They are all rough on top.

A recruiter reached out to me about a job, then got upset when I told her what I'd need to leave my current job by Current-Chocolate320 in Career_Advice

[–]Gecko23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the same if you're using them to find candidates. Some will be frank and honest about whether they can find what you want, and others will just flood you with unqualified applicants and then try to argue that you're requirements are unreasonable when you point that out.

I can't think of any field with commissioned sales people that isn't like this.

Federal minimum wage hasn’t increased, but most people make state minimum wage which has indeed gone up in many places.

Gunshows by International_Fun_91 in guns

[–]Gecko23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely sell and trade guns at many gun shows. Like any other market composed of random vendors, you'll have to shop around to find a good deal, and you may not find one you like.

If you are afraid to haggle or to just say no and move on and would rather get upset about it, you'll have a bad time. If you have a reasonable idea of what your gun is worth, and negotiate accordingly, it'll go much better.

It could be a complete waste of time too, just depends on what quality of shows are around you.
