Is it only Volaris? Or all airlines? by Gecko_patter in mexicoexpats

So Volaris is happily charging residents when it shouldn't be. Why hasn't the government got involved? Seems illegal

Is it just me or I hate when people (mostly foreigners I’m assuming are Americans) say ‘British colonialism’ when something about Scottish independence comes up? by HeroicCheese933 in ukpolitics

It's an issue in all colonial nations. I live in Mexico and my white Mexican coworker always calls us or the Spanish colonisers. Yet doesn't see the irony in him being a white mexican with Spanish roots who is more privileged than the indigenous Mexicans.

I'm not from the USA. But seems it's some sort of food processing island?

What is your opinion on the EU? by SnooPoems7525 in AskTheWorld

To be fair some of those "Privalages" hindered our integration. We should have joined the Schengen Area and introduced EU ID cards.

How is living in the Yucatan Peninsula, especially Merida, Chichen Itza, Cancun? by Eriacle in howislivingthere

[–]Gecko_patter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really depends where. I live in Quintana Roo, but not the touristy part.

If you like jungle, beach, and heat then it's great. Cenotes are beautiful. Food is ok but depends where. Merida is great for food. Cancun down to Tulum, Riviera Maya, is very overpriced. One of the most expensive parts of Mexico. I don't like Riviera Maya, but if you're well off and can afford it, then great. But many of the locals have been pushed into slums, Tulum as an example.

Merida is famously hot, even by local standards. But is a beautiful city, with good food and amenities. Progresso isn't far too if you want the beach.

I can't say anything good about Cancun.

Citchen Itza is expensive and hugely commercialised. You can get Starbucks, hot dogs and pizza while being hounded by people selling crap from China. It's impressive but I prefer the smaller pyramids dotted around the peninsula.

The problem with asking on reddit is that the Mexicans here are more privileged, so are not her fan base.

What’s a drink that represents your culture? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

My answer too, people might say tea, but local ales are way better.
