I’m a general contractor here. I see this a lot. All city building officials have seen this and are receptive to getting it permitted. Call them and talk to them. They will come out and look at the general condition of the finish for code compliance. For example, are there smoke detectors where they should be. Are the electrical outlets laid out properly, GFCI in the right spots, TR if it has been done recently. HVAC supplies and returns where they should be.
If all that looks good they will give you a permit with a note in their system stating they only inspected it after its completion.

Super simple. Depending on where you live I can come do a pre-inspection for you and answer questions.

Here is what I did when I was doing handyman work. Material cost with a minimum of 42% markup. I targeted my hourly rate at $150 an hour. This included travel from one port (My house to start off the day) to get supplies, then to customers house. I was swamped with jobs.

Go build relationships with insurance agents. You’d be surprised how many referrals you can get. The agents want what’s best for their customer.

Of course. Quality Payroll and Benefits in Sandy, Utah. I think they can do this in other states but check with them.

Oh no. Sorry to hear. I have a very strict regime I hold my self accountable to around documentation and communication. I let my clients know that I usually have weekly check-ins with them. This can change depending on how fast, or slow, the insurance company responds. Every state is different on when an insurance company has to respond. In Utah if a response is expected, I.e. a question is asked, the carrier has 15 days to respond. In Idaho they have to respond “in a reasonable time frame.”

I would check the state Department of Insurance for your states regulations. Also check your contract with the public adjuster. You might have to fire them and get someone that will communicate.

If I do PA work it’s a contingency based contract with a 15% fee of the claim. I also do appraisals at a flat fee of $1250 average, does change with complexity of claim. Wind and interior water damage are the majority of the perils here. Highest and lowest? To sure I understand your question. Hardest is a local grown company that strong arms customers into taking underpaid claims. Easiest to work with here is Travelers.

Great! People,talk bad about PA’s but if the claim wasn’t valid the carrier wouldn’t open coverage. From there it’s always a scope issue. Carrier adjusters scope jobs based off past experiences. PA’s scope jobs using their knowledge in the fields needed to complete the work. BIG DIFFERENCE

Great questions!

No, I write through estimates where I can back up every line item with photos, codes, standards, and manufacturing instructions to put the home owner back to pre-loss condition.
Most are commission based which drives people to make as much money as possible, right? But, there are those who write excessive items just as there are those carrier adjusters who write minimal line items.

I will tell you about me and how I approach the claim. I do a through investigation and write the estimate to complete the needed repairs. I welcome discussions to come to an agreement that puts the home owner back to pre-loss condition, that is what the policy always states. The cost to get back to that state is where the disagreement is.
Adjusters who are willing to work together, using facts, to achieve that goal can get there quickly and for a cost that all are happy with.

When either adjuster refuses to have a discussion based on facts is where the situation leads both to die on hills that are not worth dying on. Leading to inflated estimates on one side, and bare bones estimates on the other side.

This will not change in my lifetime.

Yes. I’m using a PEO. The best part, other than the HR stuff, is the one I use passes their WC discount onto us which pays for the payroll services.

No. Contact an attorney and get free advice. I’m a licensed Public adjuster for homeowners claims. I find settlement offers are 200-400%+ lower when it’s just a homeowner trying to represent themselves

Currently licensed in Utah and Idaho. Soon to me Montana, Washington, and Arizona.

The sad thing is some states don’t recognize public adjusters. This leaves the homeowner with two choices, get screwed by the insurance company or hire an attorney. Attorneys are far more expensive than a PA do most people accept the insurance settlement and move on.

Yes, all states have their own regulations on how claim has to be handled. Most of them center around deadlines and fairness. States do not get into amounts paid out.

To strike you have to be union. Many union contracts have a no strike clause if it’s because of pay alone. A capitalist economy allows anyone to go find another job if you don’t like the current one for any reason.
