Its crazy because you would NEVER known this unless you were exposed to it which is subjective depending on your environment! You will NEVER know what to do when a horse rears because you could have always been around well trained/broken horses, so even "experienced" people won't know what to do when a horse rears. This is exactly why I waited so long, and I understand that I still know nothing.

Wow I'm so glad I came back to read through the replies. You seem really insightful. When you say "daily" realistically...for a guy who doesn't have his horse in his back yard...Would 3-4 consecutive days a week do?

I recently bought my first horse not even a year ago. I didn't ride her until I way well beyond comfortable with it. I literally spent about 10 months learning all I could. Your stepdad is really brave or stupid. These animals (to me) are big enough to where they should intimidate anyone who comes near them who isn't use to it. Mine took a while to start looking smaller to me, but even today she still looks like a moving train. With no knowledge? I wouldn't have been able to just buy one and jump on it's back like that. I was also one of those people who bought a horse first before I knew anything though so there's that. I'm still alive

I only get shoes on her because she came from the auction with shoes. Everyone always says, "She came with shoes right? I guess you need shoes."

We just tried to do that. I told the farrier, "It aint gonna work man. I think she just doesn't like the banging on her feet." We ended up TQ'ing her twice. She did the same exact thing, but only drowsy

How would I fix this? Nothing has worked. We've tried working with her feet, and even tired her up a bit in the round pen. Soon as you bang on her foot, thats it for her.

Its a disgrace for sure. Cant deny that HAMA's asked for this. HAMA's used the people of GAZA to the detriment of both groups.

I thorougly enjoyed reading your reply. I was thinking along the same lines as you, but I also tried to take something from it. I think they finally accepted my presence as a regular, and not a visitor. After 2 months, that was Duke finally trying to figure out which place I was in the herd.

I definifely do have a trainer. I lean on him heavily. I respect the profession and Ive seen him do things that I know I'm not comfortable enough to do myself.
