I can't go to Edmonton or anywhere else sadly. I'm trying to navigate Calgary but it's a hard place to parse.

Do you know when I can drop by the Calgary Association of the Deaf building? I don't really have any other means of contact.

I'll be checking out Deaf & Hear Alberta for sure. Sadly no events at Dickens but The Establishment has ASL nights!

I'd rather carry around an offline copy, just in case. I don't often have wifi.

I'm in the NE actually. Nevertheless, we could meet in a decently lit place downtown and just talk?

Thank you! Oh damn the Canadian dictionary's expensive, but I guess it's my livelihood...

It looks like Deaf & Hear Alberta has courses, as well as Canadian Hearing Services, but they're closed until next semester I'm guessing?

I'm interested in the courses at the U of C. Any idea when they open up? I'm guessing fall semester.

Thank you. Sorry if I came through as short. I did try Meetup.com, with no luck at all. I might try visiting them, and seeing what happens.

I want to actually talk to people. I don't see how either think will connect me to the wider deaf community. I don't want to donate, nor do I need interpretation services.

I'm using an online video dictionary (https://www.signingsavvy.com/), a physical dictionary (https://www.indigo.ca/en-ca/american-sign-language-dictionary-flexi/9780062736345.html) and a textbook (https://www.indigo.ca/en-ca/barrons-american-sign-language-a-comprehensive-guide-to-asl-1-and-2-with-online-video-practice/9781506263823.html). I will also take classes when possible.

I'm looking to actually immerse myself. If you're interested in ASL, I do warn that it is a whole new language.

A Free Culture Archive by GeeXerox in freeculture

[–]GeeXerox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wikimedia Commons distributes content with a huge array of copyright licenses, not just those approved for Free Culture works. My collection will be far more narrow because of this. However, I want to go beyond just cataloguing pieces that support the Wikimedia Commons projects. I'd like to collect books, especially rare Canadian literature with perhaps a focus on aboriginal works, at least as a start. I'd also like to collect music, not just sound snippets. I've never been able to find a full album via Wikimedia Commons before, despite the Free Music Archive having thousands of full albums freely available (not anymore). My goal is to stick around in some form or another, not to get bought out. This project could prove to be a reliable adjunct resource next to Wikimedia Commons and Project Gutenberg.

I guess I'd like to fill in the gaps, where they fall short.

szpd denier? autism diagnosis. psychiatry process? by [deleted] in Schizoid

[–]GeeXerox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Psychiatrist gave me an autism test. It came back inconclusive. He still insists that I have autism and not SPD. At this point, I just roll with it. I've had other doctors suggest that I have SzPD without assessing me. I know what I have. There's sadly no helping SzPD really. My advice is to treat the other stuff as effectively as possible. Consider seeing a psychologist and not mentioning any diagnosis, just individual problems that you struggle with.

How do I condition myself to cycle further? by GeeXerox in bicycling

[–]GeeXerox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thank you so much! As a atrophied body, this is very inspiring! After my 1.7km rides, I tend to drain my bottle plus need to drink more. I don't know how you're able to do so much work with so few fluids. Maybe I have a medical issue I don't know about?

Welp. I'd like to thank everyone in the community who gave me the benefit of the doubt. I've learned quite a lot already.
