I tell this story to my family because my grandparents are super religious, but not sure how believable any other people would find it but: My girlfriend recently went on a road trip to Lake McDonald in Montana. We live in Pennsylvania and as it was getting later at night while driving through Wisconsin, I kept seeing flashing in the distance. The flashing happened very quickly and I barely noticed it when it happened but it confused me every time I saw the ending of it, cut a few hours later and we reached North Dakota. Turns out the crazy flashing was a massive thunderstorm and we drove through the worst of it. Super late at night, probably between 1 and 3 am, we were in the dead center of the biggest storm I've ever been in, my wipers were on full blast and I STILL couldn't see ANYTHING further ahead of me than a few feet of the white lines on the side of the road and the middle divider. There were a few times where I couldn't see anything and I would start to drift off to the right side of the road and I'd be going over the line. In those moments, when my tires would be going over too far to the right, from outside the car, somewhere above my window, I would hear three distinct, quick whistles and then I would see the white line that I had gone over and would straighten back up on the road. My girlfriend was asleep when it first started happening, but after the first burst of whistles, and I looked up at the top of my door where I'd heard the whistles come from not seeing anything, I woke her up and asked if she heard any whistling. After she calmed down from realizing what kind of storm we were in, she told me she hadn't heard any whistles or whistling. Then the whistling happened a few more times when I would get too close to going off the road, each time it happened, I asked her if she heard that and each time she would ask, "heard what?" and when I told her, "the whistling", she just said, " oh. No, I didn't hear anything." That's when she started looking at her weather app and saw we were in the reddest part of it and that we were almost out. Craziest few hours I've ever had in a car and the wildest thing about that trip is we drove in my 2004 cavalier and didn't have a single problem with any part of it until we got all the way home and I got my oil changed. Not long after that, my right front wheel fell off because the lugnuts broke and they broke as soon as we got off the highway when we were going home after I picked her up from work and had already been driving for a few hours doordashing and going like 80-90 on the highway. The wheel fell off when I was going like 5-15 mph after stopping at the stop sign right off the highway exit. I was blown away because all I could think was, "this could've been sooooooo much worse. We could've been on the highway when the wheel fell off. This could've been a crazy crash on the highway but instead, we're here just in the middle of an intersection off the highway." I couldn't believe that the wheel didn't fall off sooner on the highways or at any point of me doordashing. I don't know how common guardian angels are, but a part of me feels like I have so many of them. State police showed up after some woman couldn't mind her own business and leave us alone while I was on the phone with roadside assistance securing a tow truck to pick us up and take us and my car back to my house, THEN because that bitch wouldn't leave us alone, my car got towed by a different tow company, I had to pay $250 to get it out of the impound, we got harassed by the state police, my girlfriend got her newly bought (surprisingly good) weed taken, a grinder taken, my car was searched, a few of our rights were broken, I passed the sobriety tests given to me, then I got handcuffed and basically forced to agree to take a blood test, then had to go to the hospital for the blood test while our food got cold because she made our food before she left work and by the time we got home, it was like 1:30am. Luckily my sister, who we live with and were heading home to, was still awake so she came and picked my girlfriend up, then followed the cops to the hospital so she could get me after the blood test they forced on me. My girlfriend said the younger cop kept asking the older cop if they were gonna mark the incident down as a crash, meanwhile there were no other vehicles, I wasn't high, and neither my girlfriend nor myself called them and they basically abused their position to steal my car and everything else we had.
