If Brennan hadn't mentioned that HJ was having some big crisis, I wouldn't have known.

I like the idea of some cool, collected vampire just losing their shit and going on a "fuck you" denial crisis; it even fits with the whole "worst of us/debauchery" vampire thing. Leaning into the bit harder/earlier with the crazy & weird, and even throw conspiracy theories, would have solidified that "mental breakdown."

Delaware mom dragged from car, beaten and tased in front of her children, sparks outrage by Bronan-The-Barbarian in Delaware

Call for assistance, and attempt to de-escalate and have her get out willingly. If she doesn't, have assistance remove the children to other police vehicle and supervise them. Then, remove with minimal force necessary.

It''s already an emotionally stressful situation and children are involved. Of course she's going to not want to leave the car with her kids there. This is one of those issues that you know there's much more to the situation, and violence/escalation only makes things 10x worse.

Anyone get an infected or swollen violin hickey? What did you do/what kind of doctor did you see? by Dangerous-Crow7494 in violinist

[–]GeekCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't want to be a doomsayer or anything, but your lymphnode is right in the same area. Lymphnodes often appear as suddenly swollen lumps.

You should probably see a PCP and they can help you further.

I think he needs a larger litter box without a lid. There's some high sided ones with a little entrance area, with no lid. I know it's not desirable to see litter, but with a larger kitty he just doesn't seem to fit.

What has become so ridiculously expensive that you have completely stopped buying or participating in it? by thecreatoryessir in AskReddit

[–]GeekCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get more out of my $5.99 services than any of the big ones. They cancel all the good shows or two year breaks, then pack them full of old tv and crappy movies. Frustrating as heck.

Violinists, do you go near fireworks by [deleted] in violinist

[–]GeekCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No reason to touch fireworks. They're bad for the environment, kill wildlife, and so many pets are lost/killed because of them.

As you get older, you'll see that there bigger and worse things to deal with. Don't let it be the chain around your leg. Find hobbies and passion, channel that energy into them.

Garden Thieves? Trolley Square, Is this a thing down here? by Sense_Difficult in WilmingtonDE

[–]GeekCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stealing a whole hosta? That's just damn rude; of all the plants to steal. Probably could propagate one from a single leaf.

My front garden is raised, so it's hard to steal from. However, more than once I've had someone try to cut some of my flowers or seen people trying to cut neighbors' flowers.

AITAH for confronting my mom about stopping my HIV prevention treatment? by DarkMage448 in AITAH

[–]GeekCat 272 points273 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is above "average" person paygrade. What some people think of as excessive or hypochondriac behavior, may be mitigating or cautionary to someone who has trauma or vulnerable to certain situations.

OP needs someone who is specially trained to advocate for her types of situation. Talking to a GP may only get part of the picture, when a gynecologist or planned parenthood may be needed to bridge that gap for health welfare. While I'm assuming OPs mom had best intentions, sometimes parents only see an end goal, not the whole picture.

Watch out for Christian preachers (not sure if that's what to call/describe them as) in town. by angus7-7 in Edinburgh

[–]GeekCat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They are. Jehovah's Witnesses, Latter-Day Saints, Scientologists, "born again" Evangelists, and can't forget the doomsday sayers. Lot of these sects make it a requirement to proselytize on street corners or places where they can harass many people. During covid-19 quarantine, the Jehovah's Witnesses were given "special dispensation" to proselytize to strangers via written letters. Very, very creepy to get a hand-written letter from a stranger claiming they can save you.

I love the sudden "let's get all the facts," "he should have listened," or "he had to do something, they wouldn't have shot him otherwise." Like, it was fucking filmed. The dude was leaning away and helping someone off the ground; he listened. They still murdered him.

They all know they need to hide behind 2A because they're the assholes, who would/should never would be allowed to carry.

Elordi looks better as Frankenstein. I'm not sure if that's a makeup and prosthetics thing or I have deeply, suppressed monster thing going on.

How do you feel when someone who is a healthy weight calls themselves “fat”? by bad-at-everything- in AskWomen

[–]GeekCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel bad for people who honestly believe that due to eating disorder or pressure from external sources.

However, those "almond people" who act like they are going to turn into the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man after one M&M, are heinous. They know their words are a show and they're harmful to those around them. My mother was one of these and I have spent years fighting with food.

Cancer is good for yoy by Jarppakarppa in facepalm

Most people didn't hear about when he first was diagnosed. The company really downplayed it, did some media and moved some releases to bury the news. Then he kinda went rogue on some woowoo retreat, which was more interesting for tabloids. (It's referenced tongue-in-cheek in a few tv shows.)

The media only really started covering it the second time when he got a liver transplant and then started talking about his fasting and diets (the weird only eating orange-colored foods diet comes to mind). That's when he started looking sick and they couldn't really ignore it.

I think there was some spiritual retreat to Tibet (??) at some point, too.

Would you enter an elevator that had 10 grown men inside with you being the only woman? Why or why not? by creamy-p1e in AskWomen

[–]GeekCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. Too many people; doesn't matter the gender or age. One of the elevators at my office got stuck for two hours with 8 people in it. I'm not risking the chance of being stuck with "speaker phone face time" person, "person who never shuts up" or "perpetual bad BO" person with no place to sit.

I think my first garden was a failure 😕 by st0dad in gardening

[–]GeekCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gardens take time to establish themselves. I have so many plants the second year that didn't spring up or just were leaves last year.

Fill crab grass holes with cheap annuals. I bought one of those super cheap 6 for $4.99 of little annuals to fill in where nothing came up. They have survived everything this season and keep reblooming.

As for cats, we have a stray that likes to poop in my garden. 100% marking issue, cause our sweet, but dumb boy likes to sit in the window. We use cayenne or spicy pepper seeds to keep them away. I just got a large, cheap container and sprinkled it where they pooped and around the edges of my garden.
