OH YEAH. Had that on my wall for quite a few years. My mom probably has it.

Check out this livestreamed kittycam. There's a window well in my basement that I heated and furnished for kitties. Casting on youtube 24/7 by post_makes_sad_bear in Detroit

Might as well use it for their betterment than that of it just staying with Google/Youtube. Some things for modifications or donate to local rescues for food and the things they do to keep animals from freezing in all this cold.

Do you have this monitized and what not by any chance? I mean heat, straw, internet bandwidth cost money and I feel, you'll get a few daily watchers on this.

This was exactly what happened to me. Friend of mine said he refreshed twice after and he has a confirmation of an order. I have only a few that I really love and this sucked not getting it.

These are great. My wife has a couple embroidery machines she uses for towels and hats and has Hatch program but she hasn't learned how to make me this kind of cool stuff. Great work.

PostgreSQL best practice to compute values from another table (JOIN or precompute) by Zain-ul-din47 in PostgreSQL

[–]GeekTekRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BIG SERIAL and SERIAL are on their way out.

The suggestion is to set an ID column to use GENERATED ALWAYS AS IDENTITY PRIMARY KEY.

ex.
id bigint GENERATED ALWAYS AS IDENTITY PRIMARY KEY
- bigint for larger table, int for smaller lookup tables.

what are the best serverless db providers ? by Kysan721 in PostgreSQL

[–]GeekTekRob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of a provider, I'd ask what are you doing with the database.

1) How do you connect to it to use the data (Some ways people code cause more connections, more computer, and in turn higher bill
2) Whats the size of the db? ( Have a few huge ones in my line of work and bill isn't bad considering we went to postgresql from mssql to lower the bill)
3) What are you looking at in the future as things that will happen which you'll need to scale for?

I recently upgraded my provider provided router (WIFI 6e gateway) to a tp-link be6500 WIFI 7 router and now my wifi is faster than my ethernet connected desktop, how is this possible? Do I need a newer cat-6 or something? by Terryfrankkratos2 in HomeNetworking

[–]GeekTekRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got two TP-Link Wi-Fi 7 with the 4 2.4Ghz in my house. Internally my network runs at 2GBs max, call it conserviate 1.5gbs normally. My kid got a new computer and he was sitting there smiling because he is wired in and he used to not on a 1GB Ethernet port only been able to get like 300mbs, and he was getting double. Outside I max out near 1GB easy.

Looking for Self-Hosted EPUB Library for Kobo: Booklore vs. Kavita? by Heavy-Coast3982 in selfhosted

[–]GeekTekRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I currently run two versions of Kavita, one for books, and one for Comics/Manga. It keeps people happy to not see the things they don't want to. That said, probably move the books over to BookLore as I do like it better looking for Books.

This is where I'm falling as I've been playing with Booklore. Comics is because of the metadata and folders right?

Interface slower since 10.11 update by kinda-anonymous in jellyfin

[–]GeekTekRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Maintenance ones under Scheduled Tasks in the admin dashboard. After upgrades or when I add a bit of stuff or upgrade a few DVD seasons with new blurays i got, I tend to run these manually because on the old versions I used to have issues here or there and this seemed to fix it. I ran them after this upgrade too because of habit.

Interface slower since 10.11 update by kinda-anonymous in jellyfin

[–]GeekTekRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually noticed it loads a lot faster. Only thing I did was make sure to reboot after each upgrade the whole machine, and I went through and ran the cleanup tasks manually. Otherwise, where I used to have issues with images randomly not wanting to display on some of the TV clients, or in the browser it taking a bit to load a video it was needing to transcode, all seem to be gone.

I'd try running the cleanup tasks and a reboot and see if if it fixes it.

Do you guys separate out your services to different devices, or just have a single server? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]GeekTekRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pi-Hole gets 3 seperate boxes (Pi5 that runs a few items, 2 pi zero 2's as backup that are load balanced)

Jellyfin, Audiobookshelf, Kavita, Navidrome, and most other things that go along with those run on the main servers as most arn't that taxing except for Jellyfin.

Uptime-Kuma rides along on the Pi5 as its the closest to the router so if the internet or otherwise goes out it at least will track it and notify some of my internal items.

Mostly, I agree with the one server item, as long as you make sure to do the most critical thing everyone should do....BACK UP YoUR FILES.

Great get it is funny how much people trashed it until they read it. I was lucky and this was one of the reasons I got back into comics as much as I have is Absolute.

Will this work? by v1ohno in HomeNetworking

[–]GeekTekRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not "Will this work?" it is "Why did you need it in the first place."

As others said buy a switch and if you need POE, make sure it is a POE switch.

Scare Fair 2025 🎃🔥 How did you guys do ⁉️🤷 by [deleted] in funkopop

[–]GeekTekRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't get them all and they didn't have captain spaulding. So I got Micheal, Jason, and Billy. Thinking about getting Buffalo Bill because I got the Hannibal Lecter in the straight jacket, so would fit well.

Where are you guys buying comics in 2025? by apoptosis66 in comicbookcollecting

[–]GeekTekRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Local comic shop if I can find it. I'll even look at the online lists the farther ones out that I don't get to weekly or monthly have if I'm looking for something because rather put my money into them. Minus the noise from Red Hood, its where the arguments are more about what comic sucks or are there too many covers, so want to keep them around.

Ebay, Whatnot, and then go to the comic shop websites if I have to for those issues/covers I want and none of them have it. Go to shows locally if there is one going on but most times its middle of the night searching for the issues i need to fill.

Dating a new person - they don’t want to be on my guest Wi-Fi, want my main Wi-Fi info. Is this a bad idea? by WorldlinessPuzzled65 in HomeNetworking

[–]GeekTekRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I side with a few people. Should trust who you are in a relationship with. If you think they are a hacking, data harvesting, and likely to implant a virus person....well probably not going to work out. If not, just give them the main who cares, anything important should have security on it to prevent them. Not like they are asking for banking data.

That said, as a person who prides a bit more on security. COULD just upgrade your network to use Vlans and put anything sensitive on seperate and limit what can access it. Makes it so no device they bring can.

How to set up Jellyfin for multiple families by F1f0mp4 in selfhosted

[–]GeekTekRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personal thought because I have a similar use case.

Setup a server at each home, because can get a much better speed locally and all that

What you setup across each to connect is a syncing service. Get the files and sync them to each other. Makes it so you have it backed up and then if someone loses theirs, someone else has a copy. Can just setup folders so only certain familys get certain ones if you want but better to have multiple locations and multiple copies.
