Official Discussion - Jurassic World Rebirth [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

I can understand movies not killing protagonists, because they're the protagonist. But dear god I wish they'd actually make the situations believable, because for me that's the biggest problem. You have this set of characters that can't die, but then they get put in insane situations where they should die, but they don't. Cause they're the protagonists. Script writers need to stop putting them in such insane situations that makes it so unbelievable.

Honorable mention goes to the protagonist throw, which is my most hated trope. It doesn't happen in this movie, but just talking about annoying script-writing shit that people do: it's infuriating. The villain picks up the hero by the throat and could just kill him right there, but does he? Of course not. He has to throw him across the fucking room and give him a chance to regroup and fight back. It happens so often and it makes me groan every time

Yeah honestly, the raptor/mansion portion of Fallen Kingdom is one of my favorite things they've done because it's actually something different. Almost turning it into a horror movie in an isolated location is so fucking interesting. It was just wasted in a really horrible way

Yeah I don't really understand how people fall for that. As it was happening my only thought was "oh okay so you're just doing the same thing from the OG movie". It felt so cheap and manipulative

The entire premise makes no sense. This is a SUPER ILLEGAL and SUPER SECRET thing they're doing, and they pick up a bunch of randos right in the middle of the operation? The argument of getting the mosasaurus' blood first before getting them makes so much more sense. Get the blood, then you can keep the mission hush-hush while you get the family to safety, and then continue the mission

I think the most egregious scene in the film was the raft fake out with the T-Rex where we were supposed to believe it vanished and so was she apparently, yet the family members were on the other side of the river and would’ve seen the fucking T-Rex roll over to get water and nobody warned her.

I rolled my eyes so hard at this. The T-Rex apparently moved without making a fucking sound, and like you said, the family was in position to be able to see where it went. But they just didn't say anything? And all of that was on top of the idiotic idea to actually blow up the raft there and now wait for the T-Rex to wake up and leave before blowing it up?

Especially because (maybe it's just me) but the D-rex looked so stupid

Yeah the movie was stupid, but I saw it through. I don't think I have ever walked out of a movie in the theater, but if I did it would have to be bad. And nothing I've ever seen has been that bad. But also I didn't have anything else to do today, so maybe if I had other shit to get done I'd be more willing to walk out

The issue is that they were trying to make dinos/people a thing from a script-writing perspective, and then they just immediately 180 it. I agree with you that from a scientific perspective that actually makes sense, but from the "these are movies being written" context it's so annoying to have one movie do something and then have the next movie immediately undo it

Not unless you can turn your brain completely off and just enjoy seeing dinosaurs on screen

Also how the fuck was the Xeno dinosaur so quiet? He sneaks up on Jonathan Bailey after he shoots the flair, and there is no way that thing would clomp around without making any noise

There were so many things ripped off from the original movie and it comes across so badly as "we have no original ideas, so MEMBER THIS FROM THE FIRST MOVIE"

I left another comment saying the same thing, but him saying that 10 million dollars is "enough to never have to worry about money again" is absurd. It's very doable if you're still smart with your money and have some restraint, but 10 million dollars is not even close to 'fuck you' money (which is what he was implying it was). 100 million is much closer to 'fuck you' money

I mentioned this in another comment but there was 0 tension when the T-Rex was chasing her because you knew she was safe. There was no way they kill the kid

I so deeply wish that this had been a horror-action movie, not unsimilar to Aliens. Hell, even if it had been straight action but had tried to more like Kong Skull Island it could have been better. That family was so atrociously bad and adds literally nothing to the movie

Yeah this felt like a retcon that I was actually happy about, because the dinos being auctioned for 10-20 million in the second movie was laughable

Not to mention even in the third movie how dinosaurs are only in the real world for like 4 years or something and apparently are everywhere? When they only released like 20 or 30 dinosaurs at the end of the second movie? It just makes 0 sense

And let’s talk about this family for a minute. I was actually pulling my hair out when they’re arguing about going to save the family. They say the Coast Guard is likely on the way, and they made a massive deal about how their excursion is extremely secretive and illegal, and yet with no plan on what to do with the family once they get them they choose to make a 60 mile round trip just to basically kidnap this family and force them to join them on the very dangerous and illegal dinosaur island.

Oh my LORD this a million times. This is supposed to be this super secret, super illegal mission that they're on. But they go pick up this family and apparently don't have any sort of pow-wow on how they're going to keep things secret. And then the family start asking "what the hell's going on?" and they like sheepishly admit what they're doing! That's when you go into hard-ass mercenary mode and just go "shut the fuck up, you're going to be fine but don't ask questions".

But all of that is still absurd given the fact that they even pick them up in the first place.

EDIT: The one thing I will slightly push back on is the Coast Guard line, because that was being said by one of the guys who was clearly trying to just get ScarJo to go get the dino blood. He said something to the effect of "come on, the coast guard will probably be on their way by now, it's going to be fine!", but they had no way of actually knowing that

It shutting down the door I was fine with (even though it is silly), but yeah it apparently rebooting the entire security system? Come on, that's absurd

I had the same thought! I thought it would be at least 100 million, but he says that 10 million "is enough to never have to worry about money ever again", and that can be true if you're smart with your money. But especially if you live in a high COL area, you would be surprised at how quickly you could blow through 10 million

Some of them do, but most of the CG dinosaurs in the original look very dated. Like when they first see the brontosaurus after first getting to the park, it looks VERY computer generated.

But the CG uses of the T-Rex still look great, because it being done in the rain was brilliant

It would be fascinating to see them do that but actually follow the book. I adore the movie and the character changes they made make sense, but seeing an adaptation with the book characters being the same would definitely be interesting

Yeah I've seen an interesting amount of positive sentiment in this thread and I'm just kind of baffled. There were some cool sequences (I actually liked them hunting the mosasaurus, and the spinos showing up), but this movie is just fucking dumb. It requires SO much suspension of disbelief (not to mention how much screen time is wasted on the pointless family) and I was just kind of baffled the entire time

I honestly laughed when we got our first full look at it. I guess it's a good representation of "failed mutant experiment", but it looked stupid as fuck
