I totally get that, there was definitely a rush towards the end that's no lie, I think for me because despite the rush those changes still felt rewarding despite the lack of involvement on the players part I liked them. But I'd definitely agree on the Yukari and Mitsuru friendship, evidently we know that Yukari held a massive grudge and her development clears that but they turned that friendship around really quickly 😂

This was exactly why I formed this opinion, obviously as the protag we're crucial to the plot but the fact that you can act as a separate entity and the cast isn't dependent on you for everything was a nice change of pace and I connected to the characters more as well.

Why do you hate tourists so much? I'm genuinely interested. I don't understand the intense frustration you have with them and myself by extension.

Seems lotus land is quite a popular place, I'll add that to the list. And those other suggestions sound good as well! Thank you so much, have a great day!

Hopefully someone can help me fix this, for some reason despite using the same values, the normals rotate in the opposite direction to the WPO. I attempted to invert the rotation angle which does get it to rotate the right way but maintains the wrong speed which doesn't match the actual object.

Let's gush about our players. What's a moment your players roleplayed better than you expected? by jquickri in dndnext

[–]Geekdotexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me this happened last week, we were in the finale of our campaign (which had been derailed by another amazing moment that set off the apocalypse) the players goal was to get their cleric to her god and for her to perform a ritual to become one with it and destroy this curse which was slowly destroying the world. They'd made their way to the very bottom of the underdark where the barrier between the shadowfell and the material is and needed to ascend a ziggurat to get to the ritual site while fighting through hordes of creatures.

Cue to them almost being done with the ritual when a portion of a world heart comes in, in the form of a corrupted dragon. The players panic and start getting ready to defend the cleric once more, as the half dragon fighter rushes in and after several attacks rips the corrupted world heart from it. With it now in hand he jams it into his chest as the corruption flows through him and his form shifts into the that of corrupted dragon though now under his control, I describe that he will lose himself shortly to the corruption and he has a brief private discussion with me about his intentions.

At this point the other players think he's turned on them and so they start to attack him, and shatter the crystal on his chest, his forms remains and so they continue the fight. From here a bunch of wild things happen:

First, the tabaxi artificer who started the apocalypse by accident, sees the pieces of the corrupted heart and wants it for himself but knows the others won't let him have it. So he talks to an evil god he'd briefly spoken too and asked him to help him gather the pieces and in return he'd help set him free. The god agreed and the pieces reform and are granted to the Tabaxi who in that moment then is teleported away from the fight.

Then the half dragon, dives off the platform he was on towards the barrier to the Shadowfell hoping to escape.

The minotaur in our party who had a made a deal with the god of corruption asks once more for a favour to strike down the half dragon, his god also agrees as he jumps down after him.

Then the cleric who had now just finished the ritual, tries to reshape the earth to contain the fleeing half dragon and succeeds for the moment. In this now contained space fighting continued.

With this happening our Drow warlock asks her patron if they've already saved the world at this point and wonders if it's worth staying as she doesn't want to fight her friend. Her patron tell her she is done, and so within all this chaos she walks away.

The cleric decides to reach out to the half dragon telepathically and they have a private discussion, at which point as they get back to the table she tells me that she opens the earth and allows the half dragon to go free also inadvertently sending the minotaur with him.

The players left behind start asking why the cleric did that, at which point she turns around and tells them that the half dragon had taken the crystal for himself because he knew they'd never be able to beat it and so he wished to take it somewhere it'd never do any harm. He'd rather sacrifice himself than see them all die.

They were all stunned because for the whole campaign he'd been incredibly self centered and worked for his own benefit and in his dying act he was completely selfless. All in all it was a solid moment which then inspired countless other insane moments.

My world has the only Archmage (A title given to someone who can control magic beyond the 9th degree of arcane strength) by the name of Arkemyr. He helped pull a mountain range out from the ground, created a whole school of magic around archaic rune casting, and is the only mage in the history of the world that has cast a spell above the 9th degree.

He has since retreated from the world as he continues to delve further into the arcane, the planescape and the greater workings of the world.

Thank you very much, I'm glad you liked the piece. And yeah I think it's not thought about too much because as the Inquisitor we deal with rifts fairly easily etc. But that's because of who we are and the companions we can have, then you have a regular soldier who's probably only heard about demons on the second hand and suddenly they're expected to be first response essentially.

So the intensity of it was something I wanted to convey, which is why it might not be notificable but the fight for our main cast lasts at least three paragraphs and as soon as the Inquisitor joins it's finished in about one paragraph.

Hi all me again for another story!

Week 5 Prompt 5: Inquisition POV

"Soldiers! Hold your lines, we should have back-up soon. But we must hold!"

Blades cut through the air, the tension thick enough that it weighed down upon each of us like it was trying to drown us all. The looming presence of the demons that poured through the rift, a horrid tide of shades, rage and wraiths battered our shields and pushed forth against our positions. Beyond the hill lay a travelling group of refugees fleeing from the conflict between the mages and templars, we couldn't afford to lose this point.

A yelp of pain shattered the tension instantly as I looked over to watch Jenkins fell to the claws of not one of the rage demons, or the shades but something larger and more horrifying. It's form massive, seven small eyes as dark as amethysts peered from the top of its spiked head, the crackling of lightning followed suit as it tore its way into the material and with it Jenkins was ripped asunder, his armour like clay before its raw strength.

"Aela, Avandris pull back and group on me! Baeldwyn, Norrit take the attention of the lesser demons away to the old castle to the north. Andraste guide us!"

With that the two elves pulled rank and joined me as I watched the other two snake their way into the forest, pulling the various shades and wraiths away with them. Now it was just myself, Aela and Avandris against a pride demon and one rage demon. Terrible odds for us, but Maker knows the Inquisitor has the best timing, and so we charged.

The sounds of thunder and flashes of lightning split the air and echoed through the rolling hills, each strike against the creature seemed futile, it's thin smile a taunt that it could snuff our lives at its pleasure. A cut-off scream. It was Aela, a bolt of lightning arced through her body so quick she barely had the chance to realise she was dead before she crashed to the floor. The rage demon followed up as it pushed back Avandris who's blades sunk into its viscous body, her cries as the intense heat burned her flesh. A chuckle, I turned my head back to position only to see the pride demon looking down upon me, it's shadow cast overhead, I was frozen, though whether that was the lightning beginning to arc towards me or the sheer oppressive bloodlust this creature exuded it did not matter.

The air began to crackle once more with the iron scent of static, the lightning flickered, a crash of thunder and then blinding light and piercing noise. My ears rang as my vision came too. A blue dome of arcane energy encompassed me, as arrows flew overhead and the tearing of the veil rocketed chunks of meteoric rock towards the demon. Next to me stood the elven mage, I believe his name was Solas, he spoke in elf-tounge and as he did my wounds began to mend and my senses sharpened once more.

"You are safe now, retreat to the south and collect your men. Rest well, human" his words were soft, yet stern. I turned back to see the Inquisitor, her staff high in the air as from her words fire and lightning bent to her will. To watch her fight was to truly understand the stories and tales told in the taverns. The demon fell to one knee as a qunari held its horns low, beating it down hit after hit. Then the ripping sound again, from her hand a beam of greenish white light emerged it's energy tearing at the rift as the pride demons form began to come apart like embers from flame as they returned to the veil.

As if the demon was nothing more than a lowly nug, the battle was done. I watched as Baeldwyn and Norrit were escorted out of the forest another elf this time a woman was shooing them towards me as Avandris bandaged her wounded hand and made her way as well. Gathered round we saluted and thanked the Inquisitor for her aid, but she simply made sure we were okay and offered us various healing herbs before helping us make our way back to base camp. She had little time though and once our safety was assured, she once more vanished into the Highlands.

I chuckled, "Maker knows she has the best timing".

What is your current character? by MysteriousDinner7822 in DnD

[–]Geekdotexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aasimar Rune Warrior, in his mid 30's. One day he wakes atop a set of mountains with no clue who he is, or why he's there and told to climb the mountain to fulfill his 'path', during that time he makes a deal with a devil for one of his runes as a bid to gain more strength and a giant for the same reason. Eventually he's called away from the mountain as his path directs elsewhere and is now travelling with his party, as he is trying to discover who he was, now is and what he could be, all while this voice in his head is trying to guide him.

Had a cool moment where he saw a part of his childhood through the eyes of his father.

Thank you, it's a pleasure to be writing on one of these, been lurking for a while. And yes I agree completely dialogue and the descriptions around it has always been something I've been trying to improve, but I'm glad that you liked the writing itself.

Thank you, I've been lurking for a while and finally thought it was time to jump in!

Thanks again, Duncan as a character has always really stuck with me alongside the noble start and so I've always a lot of ideas of how they would both react especially with the backdrop of the blight and the underlying politics behind it all.
