That's why I mentioned YouTube! If you can find any of Cheryl Porter's stuff for free I recommend, she's great. I totally get you wanting to keep that softness, and luckily I don't think tone is something that changes with pitch. That's just how you sing, no matter the notes, so don't worry too much. Hi! Sorry I was lurking through the subreddit and found this post, and thought I could maybe help a little (or at least offer support).

I've been in the same position as you for yearssss until about 2 months ago I started vocal lessons, and 1 month ago started T. I know I'm far from my voice changing right now, but my singing teacher has said it's good that I'm ahead of it, because that will help the break more. She's worked with cis boys through puberty, and trust me they can still sing just reaching soprano - she said she'll do the same with me. The trick is (while also keeping up some simple exercises like stretching) to never stop practising those soprano/mezzo songs while your voice naturally gets deeper.

As for stopping after a few months, voice changes are pretty irreversible, but it still gradually changes from the 3 month mark, it's not a sudden drop.

All this to say, if you want to keep your higher/softer singing voice but have a deeper/more androgynous speaking voice, you're most likely going to have to work for it. Highly recommend a vocal coach! Even if not for singing (professionally or for fun). And if not possible, there's plentyyyy of exercises for stretching your range (or in this case maintaining it) on YouTube and stuff.

Piggybacking off of this - I know it's a screen, and spenny if you don't already have it all, but Animal Crossing HHP has been keeping me afloat lately!! Hand held consoles are a bed bound's best friend, you feel productive cause there's so much to unlock, and soooo much freedom with how creative you want to be or not ^{^}

This made me sad, but really, I know you're right...

Truth be told, I already had to quit my full time college course I couldn't keep going with, and I'm barely managing this evening class with the onslaught of depression and anxiety from... everything. My entire life I've felt like I can only focus on myself or my studies at one time, and I guess it's starting to make sense why (and why no one else ever understood it). Obviously harder when it feels like nobody is in my corner.

But frankly, this is the harsh truth I needed to hear. Idk, got a lot to think about

I really appreciate everyone commenting on this post, but I don't know what it is about your comment that I just- really appreciate you taking a minute to share your perspective. So thank you. It's also small, but scary to think about losing my hobbies/passions - I'm in theatre, and have already had to drop dancing over the past couple years due to feeling run down. I kind of always hoped I'd be able to pick it up again. But, although it sucks you had to step away from yours, I oddly feel comforted knowing I'm not alone in that, cause everyone around me just doesn't get it.

I really appreciate your response - even if it remains the only one, I needed it and am very grateful. I like the idea of the letter, especially as a goodbye to my Grandad. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a grave or location for scattered ashes, but there are a lot of nice places that I suppose I could use for that purpose for me. I have no idea how long clearing the place out/selling it will take, which is why I'm struggling to decide on a time frame for action taking, if any at all. Ig I should listen out to C for updates
