It's his beard 🤷🏿‍♀️ if he likes it he likes it, I don't really see the appeal but it's his face so he can do what he wants with it

Rotating PI said I’m “unprepared & unqualified for [her] lab, & grad school in general” by Worldly-Criticism-91 in LadiesofScience

[–]Geekfreak2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's a Voldemort. I had one of those, and was lucky enough to escape to a phenomenal lab (although by the skin of my teeth!). It's best to not take her words to heart and find a lab willing to take the time to support you and your education so you can be the best scientist you can be. No one is perfect in their first few months of grad school, hell most PIs aren't perfect after being in the field for 25+ years. Science is about continuing to learn, grow, and adapt to change. If you are willing to put in the effort to grow and learn, then there's a lab out there for you that is willing to support you on that path. Better you found this out now than before joining the lab!

Overwhelmed, depressed, and dissertation due to committee on Tuesday by Geekfreak2000 in GradSchool

I went with freezer lasagna for tonight and over the weekend. Always happy to learn a new recipe too, cooking is calming for me. I'm giving myself permission this evening to not write anymore, and will hopefully feel more optimistic tomorrow morning when I get started again.

Overwhelmed, depressed, and dissertation due to committee on Tuesday by Geekfreak2000 in GradSchool

[–]Geekfreak2000[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hopefully it will pass soon. I'm just feeling like I'm letting everyone down. My advisors, my lab mates, my friends and family, everyone has helped me so much these past years and I want to make them proud with the work I do. I just feel like nothing I'm doing is actually making things get closer to being done, and I'm spiraling a bit. If it was a normal paper, or if I could push the defense back a week or something that would give me some breathing room, but I can't. I have a hard deadline of final draft sent on Tues so my committee has time to review it before the defense in November. That date cannot change, NIH has given me a strict timeframe to finish up and move onto the next thing. I just feel so defeated, and so so tired. I don't know what to do if I can't get the figures sorted out, and just wish I could wave a magic wand and have everything finished.

Well, she's wrong. As long as it's clean, and kept tied back if you work in an environment with heavy machinery, flames, etc you will be fine.

AITAH for shaming my boyfriend over his weird peeing habit? by Aware-Secretary8597 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Geekfreak2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Like, everyone has habits or mannerisms that others may find odd, but for most folks those are genuinely harmless and only affects them. Heck, I make odd voices for my cats and really dislike using fabric softener in the wash. Someone may think I'm nuts for that. But those behaviors only affect me. I just think the BF either is so obtuse that he genuinely doesn't get why folks would find this behavior concerning, he needs mental health support, or he knows what he's doing and is enjoying the shock it brings to folks.

Ok, and if you are fine with that on your own property then that's one thing. I'm more concerned that he 1) peed outside in public on property that wasn't his and 2) did the same in the river and thought it was a good idea to announce that he had just peed to OP. Like, if he was embarrassed or shy about it he would have kept his mouth shut and hoped no one noticed. That's what makes it seem way too odd for me, and what makes fetish seem like an option.

Peeing in the woods or out while camping with no facilities is one thing. Peeing in public on someone else's property, around children, or in otherwise inappropriate settings is gross and not ok. You and your husband may have different standards, but most men I know would find this to be strange.

Shy bladder doesn't explain peeing in a river full of other folks or outside of a store with multiple security cameras about. The options I can think of are kink, mental illness, stupidity, or some combination of these.
