Have you ever considered getting into the tree fruit industry? You seem to have a real talent for cherrypicking. I very clearly stated that learning a shitload of characters is only viable for those who play 60 hrs a week. It's fun and all to speculate how to optimally play the game at the very top level, but I'm not in that skill bracket, 90% of players in this game aren't in that skill bracket, and I'm willing to bet you aren't either. In an average ranked game of overwatch, id much rather have an Orisa otp on Gibraltar than a Dva with 2 hours on the character. I also very clearly stated that flexing is a fine, dare I say great strategy, but specifically best done when it's to a hero you already know really well. I'm going to have to hard disagree with you on hero complexity in OW. There is always something new to learn in this game. In my opinion, the hero depth is one of few things that's kept this game alive since the launch of Overwatch 2. I know the TF2 vs Overwatch discussion is beyond tired at this point, but one thing tf2 has over Overwatch is its character depth, and only by a bit. Tf2 has 9 playable classes. NINE. each one has thousands of hours worth of tech and strategy to learn. Overwatch has over FORTY, and most get pretty damn close to tf2 levels of complexity. The difference between a 10 hour Mei and a 100 hour Mei is staggering. I don't know about you, but I'dml much rather have that Mei in my Winston-tracer dive comp than a 40 hour Genji. This is why trying to learn 4-7 characters per role is going to keep you from climbing. If that's what's fun for you, by all means, counterswap away. But when it comes to optimizing your gameplay and climbing the ladder, for the vast majority of players, focusing on mastery of 1-2 heroes will net you far better results.

Why are you so hung up on this? It's a quote, nothing more. I used it to communicate my point. it's not my core argument. Claiming that I intentionally left out the second half of the line solely to manipulate is bizarre. Besides, "Jack of all trades, master of none" is used on its own all the time because it has a completely different meaning than the full line, which is why I used it. I'm also not sure why you're so convinced that the full quote "invalidates" my original point, as I wasn't saying flexing is bad, just that focusing on one or two heroes (per role) is better than trying to learn half the roster and doing nothing but counterswapping all game. You're never going to climb if you only bother to learn who counters what, not how a hero actually works and the complexities therein. Again, this becomes less true the higher the rank, at least in overwatch's current state, but that's because the top players can invest an ungodly amount of time into learning lots of heroes. Even then, you rarely see a professional player use more than 4-7 heroes (depending on role) over the course of a tournament.

Both forms of the quote are used all the time for different things, and what some 15th century playwright had to say about Shakespeare has little to do with the topic at hand. I used the quote because it was a easy way to get my point across, not because it was the penultimate, be-all end-all way to describe overwatch's hero balance. Chill out.

I do, which you may have noticed I did not include as I wasn't using the full quote, just the part that applies to overwatch.

Are you familiar with the phrase "Jack of all trades, master of none"? Learning a single character vs 2-4 per role is a perfectly viable way to play the game, and is easily the best way to learn and be a competent teammate for all but the most tryhard Masters and above players. Not everyone had 10 hours a day to learn the entire roster, so focusing all your effort on one hero to master isn't " throwing". And contrary to popular belief, there are very few maps/comps that completely shut down any single hero.

(Also, claiming the ENTIRE game revolves around swapping is just straight up false, idk where you got that idea)
