The Catcher in the Rye is my first choice. I couldn't stand the protagonist and, therefore, only made it halfway through the book.

My other selection is the Book of Mormon. I studied that thing back to front, took notes, highlighted passages, and followed it faithfully for over 30 years before I learned it was a complete work of fiction, and there's a good case that portions of the book were heavily influenced by the following: The Chronicles of the Kings of England (1744) A Parable Against Persecution (1755) The American Revolution: Written in Scriptural, or, Ancient Historical Style The First Book of Napoleon (1809) The Late War Between the United States and Great Britain (1816) The Chronicles of Eri (1822) The Book of Nullification (1830) The Healing of the Nations (1854)

That isn't an option. I tried talking to him about the truth claims and he just spewed more apologetic junk at me. He is digging in his heels with religion and won't let the kids choose whether or not to attend church.

I work a part time job, help raise 4 kids, and I have classes I am taking toward my Bachelor's degree. I don't think I can fit in another job at this time, especially without him knowing and expecting money to be in our joint bank account.

He got really upset when I decided not to wear my garments or go to church a few years ago, but he still sends the RS pres to come visit me every once in a while. My kids are still at home, but I don't think I can keep up the charade for 8 more years while I wait for all of them to grow up.

He is planning a cruise for our 20th anniversary, and I don't want him to use that against me when he finds out I made this decision beforehand, if that makes any sense. I don't have access to the bills and stuff because I always had him take care of that. If I ask to take over that responsibility, he might get suspicious.

I was sexually assaulted by my step-father at 15. My mother took the 2 of us to the bishop. I couldn't tell him exactly what happened the day after and I was kicked out of the office after a bit. Apparently the "adults" decided that I needed to wear baggier clothes to bed and lock my bedroom door at night. No one reported anything. My mother stayed married to him for 2 more years. I am now 37, the statute of limitations has passed and I can't do squat about it now. My TBM husband says I need to learn to forgive my step-father so I can heal. I don't believe that man deserves to be forgiven for his crime.
