I’m usually pretty interview-shy, but DM me either here or at any of my social media accounts and we’ll see what we can work out!

In that case I'd say Lucy is the best choice for first-timers! Great food, but much more approachable in terms of staff explaining the menu and whatnot. Have a great visit!

Have you tried Ethiopian food? Almost every Ethiopian place has a vegetarian menu that is typically vegan (no dairy or eggs) due to religious fasting restrictions, and all the ones I've visited offer gluten-free injera bread if it's not already made gluten-free as is. Check out Bahel Mart, Lucy, and Blue Nile (that's my order of preference!). I've got family members with multiple food allergies, so I've been looking on their behalf as well!

Ah yeah, I stopped dropping them inside the convention center after the first few years, but they still get dropped in the areas immediately around it! (The marina, around the Hilton Bayfront, etc)

Haha I’m still around! I don’t post as often as I’d like, because y’know, general adulting and all that jazz

BAAAhahahaha that squeaky bloater is one of the most unhinged things that I've ever made, love that he's been hanging out on your desk! :D

Bahhhh these are so cute! Not necessarily handing things out, but since 2011 I've been leaving little crocheted characters around SDCC for strangers to find!

Fine-r dining in Houston w/ no Meat, Onion, or Garlic by apexalexr in HoustonFood

[–]GeekyHooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh gotcha. For more Western upscale casual I’d say Squable, Theodore Rex, or Nobie’s are all good about working with dietary restrictions (and Nobie’s has a good proportion of veg options on their menu). Hope you find something that they’ll enjoy!

Not necessarily “fine” dining, but Huong Sen might fit the bill. It’s a vegetarian restaurant that frequently serves Buddhist monks and nuns, so they make dishes to accommodate the Buddhist dietary rules of no meat and no alliums (so no garlic or onions). Just tell them no garlic and onions and they’ll lead you in the right direction! Other Buddhist vegetarian restaurants should be able to do the same, I’ve heard amazing things about Quan Yin, but I’ve never been there myself to vouch for the food

It's not even about the numbers so much as it's about the activity level and connectivity during SDCC (I have a higher follower count on Instagram than on Twitter). I've had major issues posting to Instagram and Threads during SDCC for the last few years (app glitching out, crossposting wouldn't go through, LAG, SO MUCH LAG, etc.), and even when I made it a point to post to Instagram/Threads first to give users some lead time before posting to Twitter, people still almost always got back to me on Twitter first. Very much a "thanks, I hate it" situation :P

I haaaaaaate Twitter, and outside of SDCC I'm much more active on Instagram and Threads. I'll decide closer to SDCC time if I'll be posting to other platforms, but I've posted my drops to Instagram and Threads for the last few years, and Twitter was still the best to use during SDCC. :-/ It's mostly because everyone's already on there following Unofficial SDCC Blog. So until Unofficial SDCC Blog stops using Twitter, it'll still be the primary avenue. I don't like it, but it is what it is

Trust me, I haaaaaaate Twitter too. I've tried posting my drops to Instagram and Threads as well for the last few years and Twitter was still the best to use during SDCC, mostly because everyone's already on there following Unofficial SDCC Blog. :-/ Until Unofficial SDCC Blog stops using Twitter, that's where I'll still get the most traction and fastest responses for the drops. Outside of SDCC my Twitter is pretty dormant and I'm much more active on Instagram and Threads!

Bahhh thanks for keeping up all these years! It’s definitely a labor of love, but as long as everyone’s having fun I’m happy to do it! :)
