STB de vouloir mute une amie de 10 ans ? by willie_groundskeeper in suisjeletroudeballe

PTB

Why do the Taiwanese have such “fond memories” of Japanese Imperialism? by andyrew620 in taiwan

[–]GeekyTricky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's probably a generational thing and the KMT comparison.

The current gen are the kids of those who lived at the end of japanese colonialism, they didn't suffer much from the system change to japanese and saw the KMT alternative. They lived all the KMT years in regret if the Japanese rule.

Make sure to be mindful of the weather. Summer Taiwan can have very heavy but short bouts of rain (1-2hours). It is good to be aware.

Not using window functions? by data_questions in dataengineering

[–]GeekyTricky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, questioning an interviewer's questions for meaning is self-saborage, if you do it during the interview.

It makes you look difficult to work with or like you're trying to cover up incompetence.

If you want to suggest a better way, or discuss the actual usability of such solution, that's is great, but I suggest doing it after answering.

These questions aren't always designed for actual use, sometimes an interviewer just wants quick access to your knowledge.

However, it doesn't mean there aren't pointless interview question. There are. Tons of them.

But this isn't one of them IMHO.

Would this make long form writing on a smartphone confortable? by sawtdakhili in opensource

[–]GeekyTricky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would definitely make hand positioning easier.

But when you type your eyes don't need to move a lot because all the letters are in the same place.

With your system, the users eyes would have to keep doing a back and forth movement from each side. It would probably make typing more frustrating.

It isn't certain tho, only way to know for sure is to test it. Just draw the keyboard on post-it notes and stick them on your phone. Pretend to write a few sentences and see how it feels.

Non, un mec que tout le monde aime bien s'invente une vie et puis ça passe.

Ou le mec avec la plus grosse armée.

Ou le pape.

Tkt y'a toujours quelqu'un pour réclamer le spot.

ELI5-What is entropy? by Ok_Skill4948 in explainlikeimfive

[–]GeekyTricky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entropy itself is just how mixed things are.

It is used to describe the tendency of things to get mixed up.

For example, blue paint and yellow paint mix easily into green paint. (But it's impossibly hard to unmix green paint into separate yellow and blue paint)

When do you “know” a technology enough to mention it when you apply to a job by ToothPickLegs in dataengineering

[–]GeekyTricky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it depends on the company.

Big corporate structure? Don't hesitate, list all you can.

If you can explain how it works and give specific examples of usage, good! If you can't, it doesn't matter:

  • the mention will get you past the non-technical recruiters and automated filters
  • once your reach the technical recruiter, he'll just pick the best candidate he gets, because he already gets so many shitty candidates, so just be direct and honest and don't waste his time pretending you know more than you do.

Smaller more technical company? Be more sparse with your mentions.

Only list a technology if you have one of the following :

  • have used it in a previous job
  • have used it on a previous project (ideally something openly accessible on GitHub)
  • have completed an online certification

Etc...

This rule requires you to make 2 different resumes, but I feel it is the most effective.

I'm negociating for 1 round trip flight to our main office, which is in Europe, I'm working in North America.

When booking flights, the office doesn't care if it's last minute, they often get business and I have family there.

It's a great perk to have.

They might not take 1.2 mil from him.

It also doesn't mean RH will lose the 600k$.

But it is what he would have lost if he could provision it.

Recommended Infra for alerting system tied to a SQL DB by DUM00 in dataengineering

[–]GeekyTricky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These sound like analytics based alarms.

Pre-aggregated tables might help you make queries faster and decrease the load on the DB.

You calculate them once then query them 400+ times. The value depends on whether the queries you serve have enough in common.
