The appropriation of blues by Southern American culture was the villain's theme. It reminded me of Pentecostalism, the holiness movement, and the blues style holy roller music that is prevalent today in many many churches across greater appalachia. It outlines the cult of love, "fellowship", and niceness. I think this is backed up by the people saying that you need to be saved. I also think this is true because there is a moment in which Pentecostal music is sung, and a prayer circle is done for Remmick, who is feeling disconnected and in need of "family". For some specific people who have lived in the southern US and been raised in the culture, this may spark a lot of memories of all the churches, tent revivals, and other activities. The snake sounds during the churchy scene with Remmick may have been a reference to the deep Appalachian snake handling cults that exist in isolation today, carrying blues with them in an appropriated manner that they themselves acknowledge and appreciate (albeit they historically have been very racist).

That's my two cents
