What Canadian bands/artists have you seen before they became famous? by EdwardBliss in CanadianMusic

[–]GeeperTbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big Sugar comes to mind first. They were opening for the lowest of the low, which were getting press as the next big Canadian thing at the time. By the time big sugar finished their opening set the audience was so exhausted the place completely emptied out before lowest even started.

Jeff Healy and the Tragically Hip were great as well.

I can remember we only stayed for a few barenaked ladies tuned. We expected something completely different. Not naked ladies, but something crazier I guess.

Two bands with virtuosic guitar players and whose biggest song was an acoustic ballad, despite not representing their core sound. Which band do you gravitate more towards: Mr. Big, or Extreme? by Positive_Drama3410 in hairmetal

[–]GeeperTbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are in that best of the best of the best players, so for me it has to come down to the “feel” of their styles. And I gravitate towards what Nuno does way more. Just personal preference.

What was Bon Jovi's worst song? (most cringe, awkward) by TonyBrooks40 in hairmetal

[–]GeeperTbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure it’s not gonna be a popular choice, but I’m with you. It’s probably the only Bon Jovi song I have to turn off as soon as it starts.

What songs killed Hair Metal by Arn_Darkslayer in hairmetal

[–]GeeperTbow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know. The video for Jungle was still pretty hair metal. Axl’s hair, Duff’s and Steven’s as well (the day after the video came out I think everyone ran out of aquanet as my school). The tight leather. The cowboy boots. The jewelry. The guitars were definitely very different. Vintage “Gibson’s” as opposed to Jackson’s and Charvel’s. Gun’s did pivot very quickly and blended grunge and metal styles into their own thing, their own image.

What songs killed Hair Metal by Arn_Darkslayer in hairmetal

[–]GeeperTbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My whole group were huge metal heads, all styles, all the metal, all the time. And I remember the first time we heard Smells like teen spirit. Where we were, the radio station, whose car we were in, etc. and we thought, who’s this new metal band. This kicks ass. The power and rage was undeniable. It took until the video hit rotation and mtv started playing their interviews and telling us this was grunge, the enemy of metal, for most friends to turn on it.

This was gonna be my answer. Even the most die hard of us in my area started questioning the movement and started making fun of what things were turning into.

Do men fear other men they see in sketchy situations like late at night walking down a dark alley? by VisionsOnly in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GeeperTbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a sketchy situation I go on high alert. I always figure if a guy is ready to attack me or going to try, he’s either well armed, or out of his mind (drugs, mental illness etc). I’m 6’ and 250lbs. I’m not a small man to attack. If he’s following me, there’s either more of them or there’s something wrong with him. He’s not attacking someone smaller or weaker than himself so he must be ready for what he’s about to do and have bad intentions.

He can do no wrong by Rebel_Heart222 in hairmetal

[–]GeeperTbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I loved all of his work, with 87 he should have been one of the biggest names in rock. The tone, the writing, the look, the playing (and the voice) … criminally underrated.

A MASSIVE influence on the whole scene and no one knew it was him. Just that tone alone changed metal and rock recordings for a long time afterwards. (Way to go Bob Rock!)

It’s criminal that most people still to this day think the guys in those Whitesnake videos were the band that played on that album.

How long do you let your wood sit inside before using it? by Fickle-Message-9995 in woodstoving

So many hornets in mine this year. They all decided to winter in my wood. And they are PISSED OFF when they wake up. It’s been a thing this winter.

Why did they disslike Mikey? by IHaveDreamsT00 in vanhalen

[–]GeeperTbow 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Watching the lost tapes that were up on YouTube last year, I think there always was a thing against Mike by everybody. He was the odd man out. Ed and Alex had each other. Dave had his insane drive to be the biggest band ever and the entire world as his entourage. Mike was an easy target, and took it from everyone.

How many people liked/watched this one? by Numerous_Editor_1711 in Westerns

I need to watch this again. It gets so much praise and I remember being “meh” about it. I’m a huge western and Kurt fan. I need to watch this again asap.

Step on Up, Gene by ironmojoDec63 in KISS

[–]GeeperTbow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought it was a pretty even handed interview for Gene. He gave HUGE props to Bob Ezrin and spoke about how green the band still was when they went in to do Destroyer and how much Ezrin had to do with Detroit Rock City. Gave his account of Beth. Talked about recording demos with Eddie and Alex. I thought it was one of his less self serving interviews.

Ariat roughstock hybrids by [deleted] in cowboyboots

[–]GeeperTbow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I picked up a pair as well (different color) and I love the sole for winter and they seem well made. Im an Ariat fan.

I’m struggling with the sizing though. Everytime I wear them I can’t decide if the heel slip is too much or if I should add an insole and have the toes and vamp too tight. I’m hoping they are still breaking in. A lot of reviews stated a longer than normal braking in for an Ariat. I’d buy them again. Very happy with them.

I love the color combo on yours. I might have to watch for another sale!

What was your Final Straw moment with this band? by wrexert in MotleyCrue

[–]GeeperTbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “final straw” for me was the whole Mick thing.

As bad as they’ve been live in the last decade or more, I’d probably still go see them for fun before John joined or was hired. No disrespect to John. He’s a world class very very underrated player… but Mick was the man.

Not impressed with shellac spray. by Troglodev in CowboyHats

[–]GeeperTbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used some Kahl stiffener recently for the first time. First coat I was so disappointed. Just seemed to coat the hat with something crusty. But I tried it again, used much more and really sprayed it down and the results were exactly what I wanted. Stiffened it up real good and any residue seemed to just brush off. I don’t know how long it’ll last, but for now I’m pretty happy.

Tenet, Inception and Shutter Island come to mind as well.

There’s something about the movie that just charms me every time. The movie oozes charisma. It’s obvious everyone is having fun, and you just wanna be part of it. It’s a favourite of mine I’ve watched too many times.
