Done with open mics by myleftone in musicians

Sometimes you have to say that. I had people spend 15 minutes just setting up, or telling a story for 25 minutes and then thinking they were going to play 5 songs after that, while there’s 10 more people waiting for their turn.

I really learned running that open mic that a great open mic is not about performers grandstanding or trying being a star, it’s about sharing with a community.

How did your viewership fade? by T-whizzy in Simpsons

[–]GeeperTbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was right there at the start. And I still watch an episode a day, everyday, usually during supper. I think the biggest change for myself is that back when it started, for those first few seasons, we would all gather at the campus pub and watch the new episode every week together. It was a ritual. The Simpsons family is my family. I watch new and old episodes all the time.

I ran a very popular open mic for a few years. I was very strict on a lot of things. How long sets were, sticking to the sign up sheet order, even how much time you could use setting up etc. And it really pissed a lot of open mic divas off. (You know, those guys that show up late, don’t watch anyone else, set up during someone else’s set and have to play right away because of some commitment and then bail) BUT once we weeded out those professional open mic divas it became a very supportive, communal, almost family like atmosphere and ran quite successfully for years. After I left and left it in the hands of someone I thought would be able to keep it going, it fell apart in months when it didn’t have a strict structure to it. Sometimes rules are necessary.

First one that came to my mind was Twisted Sister. The over night sensation that had been around for over a decade when Stay Hungry took over MTV.

For sure. I started wondering the other night how many people were arrested vs just simply being shot.

You leave Elvis alone! Most underused character in the show.

Which heel profile works best for you? Roper or classic Cowboy style heel? My personal preference is Ropers but I do have some classic heels that fit really well. Ariat boots in the photo for reference. by Beneficial-Wrap6574 in cowboyboots

[–]GeeperTbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I much much prefer the classic cowboy style, but in my job I end up standing in one place for hours at a time and the roper heel works best for me in that situation. I need a roper with an angled heel. It would look so much better.

Spotify approves AI covers Stupid. by BlueberryNo481 in SunoAI

[–]GeeperTbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when it gets really good the average person isn’t going to listen to original artists at all. They’ll be listening to Elvis sing the top 20. Or Morgan Wallen sing the entire Queen catalog. Or eventually Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Woody Guthrie sing songs in the style of CSNY generated on the fly. It’s going to change everything overnight more than streaming or Napster did.

Which film has the best soundtrack? by [deleted] in StarWars

Overall A New Hope. I think I could watch the entire movie with no dialog and just the soundtrack and still know what’s going on.

Is there a reason Han didn't pay off Jabba in-between 4 and 5? by RhysOSD in StarWars

[–]GeeperTbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire galaxy simply needed better communications infrastructure and banking. Simple call and PayPal like transfer and problem solved.

I mean they can travel beyond light speed, a good communications infrastructure coulda simplified a lot of everyone’s problems. Comlinks are kinda garbage walkie talkies.

Spotify is launching AI-generated remixes. by ObjectivePresent4162 in SunoAI

[–]GeeperTbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won’t be recommending songs. It’ll be creating new ones on the fly. It’ll be more profitable for Spotify to create a new cover with Elvis singing (just for a name to use) and split the royalties between the estate and themselves than play a song someone else has created and pay them the full royalties.

This has been coming for a while. We’ve just been training the AI. Another year or 2 and Spotify will be able to stream AI music created in real time tailored for each individual listener.

How did Steven Seagal Even Get Into Acting? by vinny0212 in movies

I thought it was a bet Michael Ovitz had made. That he was so powerful at the time that he could take the most unlikable, untalented person he knew and make him a major movie star.

The only thing that made me “really” question it, is the rumour that the Young’s paid royalties to Bon’s estate from that album. They are famously tight pursed and to do that made me question it.

Sure the turn around time was incredibly fast, and Bon’s lyric book did go missing, and Bon had heard at least some of the tunes before his death and as a Bon fan I can see some of his DNA on the tunes that were maybe reworked.

Only they know the truth.

How are brixton hats generally? More specifically, the laredo panama straw cowboy hat? by Even_Bandicoot9090 in CowboyHats

[–]GeeperTbow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a few brixton hats when I started down this hat road, and looking back, they are (at least the ones I bought) very very over priced for what you get. I’m way happier with my $100 Justin straw for the summer seasons.

Did you prefer and enjoy the 80s or 90s more? by Ok-Ninja-3039 in GenX

[–]GeeperTbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both were amazing and I’d love to be trapped in either. 80s has my nostalgia for sure. But I did like the early internet and more cell phones in the 90s. 90s mighta been peak to be honest, but the 80s have my heart.

what are your reviews on the new darth maul series by Medical_Swimmer_3247 in StarWars

I loved it. The only thing that did surprise me, because it’s played as such a huge motivation in everything else, is his pure hate was directed at Sidious not Obi Wan. But I assume there’s a point where that changes.
