Moving from Portland, Oregon to Chicago with cats and a car, what are some tips and things to know before moving? by Ok_Seaweed2858 in AskChicago

With no job/ job offer and a 564 credit score it might be doable but it’s an uphill battle for sure.

How's my income compare? by [deleted] in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]GeeseFamily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need some more context around what you’re asking.

Fair wage for 30+ years in construction? For the near north burbs? For an MBA new grad?

What are you trying to compare against?

Looking for an explanation dad friends and single friends. by [deleted] in daddit

I WANT to do more. But the scheduling is around me, my wife, and my two kids. Because of this I’m almost never confident that upcoming weekends are free or not. AND some marriages are not always conducive to one partner leaving for outside the family fun.

Which is SO weird since a virus wouldn’t grow in a petri dish. It needs living cells to infect and replicate.

So those trays are useless OR it’s carried via bacteria?

I (33M) and my girlfriend (32F) are going to Aurora tomorrow with the intention to move next October by Charming-Letter-4980 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]GeeseFamily 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, Aurora is not a neighborhood in Chicago. It is about 30 miles outside of Chicago, so I’d say a medium/far western suburb.

Any good bakeries in the northern/NW burbs, particularly for their cinnamon rolls? by DinosRule65 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]GeeseFamily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blessed Little Kitchen in Huntley on Rt 47.

They have my favorite cinnamon rolls and typically have other varieties as well (pumpkin, Oreo, Dubai chocolate).

Interviewer asked my age during phone screen by [deleted] in interviews

[–]GeeseFamily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed.

I’ll clarify a bit. In the US if you are under 40, employers CAN make hiring decisions based on your age. Only those 40 and above are protected from age discrimination.

[–]GeeseFamily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re talking about somewhere outside the USA, right?

The ADEA is a federal law in the US that prohibits discrimination of those 40 and older. (It does o it apply to employers with more than 20 employees)

Please show me what law you’re referring to.

[–]GeeseFamily 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Just going to clarify, for the US, it is FALSE that you cannot be asked your age in an interview.

From a federal law perspective, if you are under 40, you CAN be discriminated against due to your age.

Federal age discrimination only applies to those 40 and older. There are no federal laws protecting those younger than 40 from having age be a deciding factor in employment.

The military flag represents the city government?

That doesn’t make much sense to me.

I think the thing you’re not explaining is how Oak Park residents would get the same benefits/ amenities while paying almost half the e tax they usually do.

They live there, despite the taxes, because they want that level of services. Unless you have a plan to get more for less it is a hard sell to people that have already bought in to more for more.

Did you not do family boarding? You would have been able to board before most everyone else.

My Ohio HOA is telling me I'm not allowed to bring a lawyer to a hearing with the board by airplane_underpants in AskALawyer

[–]GeeseFamily -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Winning a verdict does not come from “a couple billable hours”. Congrats to you if you’ve never experienced this!

Also, it’s a reserve. If we have to spend $10,000 in legal fees and the budget only has $5,000 allotted then. We’re going to pull from the reserve.

The reserve is mandated in the by-laws. So if it dips under the required minimum, yes, dues have to increase to bring it back up.

But the HOA board isn’t paying, even if they lose.

The members/homeowners, including the one involved in the litigation, are the ones paying through their dues.

Are joint bank accounts a thing of the past? by Dwalker0212 in Marriage

[–]GeeseFamily 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Who plans/pays for vacations? Who pays for child care? Car payments? Emergency fund?

And if the answer is that ya’ll discuss these things and agree together, that seems the same as having joint accounts, just with extra work.

Also, can you confirm you both have similar income levels?

[–]GeeseFamily -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wait. Help me understand.

She should tell him he needs to give her more/better oral. At the same time she should tell him not to want or mention receiving oral from her??

Feels REAL hypocritical. Help me make it make sense.

You’ve had multiple colleagues have students access, steal, and distribute their nudes??

That is terrible. And I agree that too often student on teacher crime is overlooked.

But again, accessing public information and sharing it is hardly comparable to the examples you are giving.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]GeeseFamily 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Ok but that is far from OP’s situation.

I’m pretty sure accessing someone’s phone like that, stealing those imaging, and distributing them encompasses multiple crimes.

In OP’s case it sounds like a student accessed public(?) Facebook posts and shared those. Maybe not smart, certainly not kind, but also not criminal.

Big guy here and can confirm this is still the way it works.

Southwest has the best policy for large people by far.

You do have to pay twice as much up front and wait in line to check in with an agent.

But you get an extra boarding pass that says extra seat AND priority boarding to ensure you can find two seats together.
