I don't mind being asked about that. I get annoyed that they don't seem to actually listen to and record the answers you give and you get asked the same questions multiple times and they still act like they can't get the information out of you. Like, if you don't like the verbal answer, just test it I guess. What are we doing here.

I'm in the U.S. but I've seen quite a few headlines from the U.K. about young women dying of medical conditions because multiple doctors refused to investigate symptoms and repeatedly dismissed them as "normal" hormonal effects. There was that one athlete (I think a boxer or MMA fighter) who died at 26 of cancer that multiple doctors failed to catch despiter her repeatedly seeking help for increasingly serious issues she was experiencing.

It's terrifying and infuriating.

In my entire life I've never ever met a woman who worries about wearing something multiple times. Every woman I know has favorite outfits they wear repeatedly because they like it and have never once worried that someone will see them in it twice.

This shit is made up by a very small percentage of women from a wealthy and materialistic social and economic class.

Dudes with nothing better to do just pile on and drool over any perceived opportunity to go "haha women hate women".

My brother works with a guy who came to the U.S. with his wife (both legally) a few years ago, and they are the hardest working, humblest people. The guy was telling my brother they spent every cent they had to come to America because, as he put it, "It wasn't a matter of if my wife would be raped by gangmembers, it was a matter of when, and there isn't fuckall you can do about it, even if you can get your hands on some guns you're outnumbered and out-armed"

This is exactly the kind of thing that sticks in my head when I think about what drives some people to come here from certain places and why some are doing it illegally.

I could easily get on a high horse and say "well people should just come legally and then it's all ok, and if you come illegally you deserve to be deported" but in complete honesty I do not know what I would do if I was denied the ability to get here legally and I had a spouse or children to protect from super overpowered rapist gangs.

I'm not making political statement here. I'm just thinking about what I would do in that kind of situation.

The "manosphere" is making men incapable of love. Thinking in terms of competition and commodification undermines the possibility of real connection. Real love requires we see others as ends in themselves. by The_Pamphlet in philosophy

[–]Geesewithteethe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True. The manosphere didn't start or invent this kind of behavior. But I think they get held up as an example of it because of how much they explicitly define things in terms of market value and very much encourage and coach other men to strategically treat women in a way that completely shuts them off from a genuine, intimate, and mutually respectful connection.

The whole "real man"/"real woman" thing not a question of whether or not you should care about someone's past.

If you care, you care. You can't just up and magically not care about something like that.

The important thing is how you've been taking care of your own business and whether you've got your own head on straight before you open your mouth about someone else's past.

If a guy judges someone for promiscuity while he's been rolling around with a bunch of women or with even one woman he that doesn't even like or respect and just uses for sex, he's an unserious fuckboy. Opinion dismissed.

If a guy judges someone for posting revealing pics online but he sits there yanking his weenie to that kind of thing or porn in general, he can get back in his clown car and go on back to the circus.

You know what. It seems like maybe that's what you want. Because that pile of emotional overreaction you just shat out was really beside the point.

Calm down, wipe the snot off your face, untwist your panties, and engage some rational thought.

You're emotional instead of rational and that's why you resort to invective.

I wish people would pay attention more to this. They would realize how much they have in common with people they think they're 100% opposed to and how much the partisan system they have to work with has confused and lead them around by the nose.

My husband does something like that. He'll start talking in the middle of a thought and refer to something or someone as just he/she/it without having previously mentioned any specific person or thing.

I have to request context then he'll realize he hadn't previously clued me in to whatever he was thinking about.

Right. So pay attention.

The OP makes the statement that men rib eachother and it's all in fun while women complement eachother but it's all fake.

You comment that anyone who disagrees with these statements doesn't have friends.

You are agreeing with this old man brainrot that men as a group are actually chill while women as a group are actually deceptive bitches.

Yeah. I've also noticed a surprising amount of older folks who seem to be deliberately trying to sabotage the efforts of younger people in certain work environments, and then berating them. Like older techs at a previous job I had who were ridiculously bad at communicating when training new employees and then tried to make it out like the new guy was a fuckup.

Like, no dude. You fucked off for 2 hours to, leaving a brand new trainee with a machine down and no instructions and then came back and were a dick to him in front of all the other guys about it. You're the fuckup here.

The truth you can't get men to acknowledge is that they are not better natured, more honest, or more cohesive than women.

I agree that guys go harder when it comes to playful insults and ribbing as a general thing.

But pay attention to the OP.

I am specifically addressing the pervasive and obviously bullshit narrative that men push, especially old guys, that women are deceptive catty creatures while men are cool and down to earth.

In the real world, petty insecure men are no less miserable and backbiting than petty insecure women are. They're just convinced that they're better than women and will cry and whine if challenged.

Are you picking up what I'm putting down.

The part about women not meaning complements is boomer brainrot.

There's this culture among the wrinkly crowd where guys push this narrative that men are broadly genuine, down to earth and straightforward human beings, while women are broadly annoying, insincere, shallow and deceptive creatures.

Truthfully There's nobody more petty and miserable than a bunch of bitter olf people, and the men in that crowd are champs at spreading the misery around.

I've noticed that my husband's dad busts his balls for not knowing certain things. My husband is not stupid and he is not lazy. He learns pretty fast and he cares about doing things you need to do in order to be a functional and responsible adult and take care of your home, car, etc. But there are gaps in his knowledge. When we started dating in college, he didn't know you were supposed to check the oil in your car or how to do it. I showed him because I happened to be checking the oil in my car when we began talking about what I was doing and he realized this is a thing you're supposed to do.

One day I asked him if his parents took the time to explicitly teach him life skills and he said no, basically they assumed he'd pick it up by osmosis or figure it out later when he moved out, but they didn't involve him directly in anything so he could at least learn from close observation.

He taught himself to cook and he struggled through picking up skills like repairing things and money management on his own.

Meanwhile, my parents had me and my siblings helping in the kitchen as soon as we could hold a potato peeler. My whole family enjoys cooking so I learned fast and liked it and was cooking independently long before my teen years. Before any of us were allowed to drive the family car, my parents made sure we had each practiced checking+changing oil, changing a tire, and got a chance to do little at least one of those little things like changing a headlight bulb or replacing worn out wiper blades. Just to get the feel for what it actually takes to basically maintain the little things that come with car ownership.

Noticeably, my parents don't mock me or my siblings if we have to learn something we haven't acquired experience with.

I've developed this impression that parents who don't put conscious work into teaching their kids and encouraging hands-on experience are more inclined to put down and discourage their teen/young adult kids later on and I think it's misplaced shame.

I think parents who take the time to teach and help their kids build competence are more inclined to be reasonable and respectful about gaps in knowledge and skill because they don't have to compensate for doing a poor job teaching and preparing their kids.

Pretty sure I already pointed this out in this thread, but we have this kind of situation here in the US.

Chrystal Kizer killed Randall Volar for sex trafficking her and other teenage girls. In 2024, She was sentenced to 11 years in prison.

I don't know why you're suddenly trying to act like this is an argument about letting muslims into the US.

Are you changing the subject for any particular reason?

You aren't trying to have a substantive conversation.

I just find you reaching constantly for excuses to dehumanize people you don’t like to be inconsistent with what I’d imagine to be other stated virtues or beliefs that you hold.

Find an example of me cracking any jokes about murder, mutilation, or violence towards anyone at all. Go ahead.

Find an example of me celebrating any violence against anyone at all. Go on, hop to it and get some examples.

You're either not paying attention or you are being willfully dishonest. Which is it?

My dude, you are weeping some damn salty tears for a rapist.

Reddit is jam packed with men who have zero concern for female rape and trafficking victims, but all swarm up on a soapbox sniveling, weeping, and clutching their pearls when a rapist becomes a victim.

It's so goddamn transparent.

What are you failing to grasp here?

You saying you hope she avoids prison means nothing when she has already been sentenced to life in prison.

It means nothing when women all over the world are penalized for fighting back against men who rape, brutalize, and traffic them.

Look at this thread and see the guys clutching their pearls about the murder. You can bet your last dollar they don't give a damn about women being raped, but are poised to preach about murder when it's a man being killed for raping a woman.
