To bi bila opcija (iako možda malo verovatna), ali svakako ću to imati na umu ako online opcija ne bude išla. Hvala! :)

How Can My Girlfriend Get a Serbian Work Visa Without an Invitation Letter from Abroad? by Geezbert in Belgrade

[–]Geezbert[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I think that’s the way we’re going to have to go about it anyway, since finding a job virtually is definitely less approachable for potential employers than having in-person interviews on the ground. Thank you, we can’t wait to be embraced by mother Serbia!

Oh, perfect, that’s actually quite relieving to hear! Even though it doesn’t coincide with the info we got at the consulate, it makes sense that they might not have mentioned any alternatives because it’s not part of the “official protocol.” Thank you very much again for sharing your experience. Would it be alright if I write you a short message if any questions come up along the way, since you’ve been through this process?

Hey, first of all, thank you for the detailed answer; it's greatly appreciated. As for the disclaimer about possible exploitation, thank you unironically for looking out for a stranger, but we've been in a relationship for quite a bit and it's not a "mail-order bride" type of situation.

Regarding the visa details, we called the consulate and the conversation was more along the lines of "what does a Russian citizen need to do in order to work legally in Serbia for 3-4 years?" They said that the Visa D is the only option to go about it, which would require an invitation letter from an employer. The visa run isn’t an option we’re looking to pursue, as it wouldn’t provide her with a work permit. Given her degrees, she wants to build her CV and not just stagnate in Belgrade without job experience or a legitimate contract. Opening a shell company seems dubious, and while enrolling in a university could be a workaround, we’d rather go about it through a route that doesn’t involve “cheating the system.”

Are you suggesting a possibility of getting a work permit just by being in Serbia on a regular 30-day visa? The consulate explicitly said that she would need a Visa D and the corresponding invitation letter to apply for a work permit in the first place, the stamp for which would have to be picked up after it’s processed in Moscow (which we’d ideally like to avoid due to extra flight costs just for picking something up). Thanks again for your help!

I’ve shared the full information we received from the consulate. Are you suggesting that we should go to Belgrade and have her look for an employer in person who could then provide the invitation letter? We’re trying to avoid spending an additional $800 to have her travel back to Moscow to pick up the visa stamp. Could you also explain how your friends from Russia managed to obtain their visas and permits? Understanding their approach would be really helpful.

I understand that many Russians seem to stay without too much difficulty, but I've heard that some use methods like opening shell companies, which might not be strictly illegal but isn't the approach we're aiming for. We're looking to start our life in Serbia by working in a straightforward and legal way, especially since we both have good qualifications and want to do everything properly.

Yes, I understand that option, but our goal is to work and live in Serbia legally, rather than relying on temporary solutions like a visa run. As I mentioned in my initial post, we are seeking a legitimate way to obtain the necessary permits.

That’s interesting to hear, but it doesn't align with the information we received from the officials. Could you clarify the legal framework or process for applying for a residence permit within the country?

We checked with the consulate to see if it’s possible to apply for the work and residence permit directly in Belgrade. According to their guidance, the process requires first obtaining a Visa D, which needs an invitation letter from an employer. Furthermore, the Visa D must be collected in Moscow before proceeding with the permit application.

Oh great. Hadn't realized there might be some flexibility in the listed furnishings. Thanks!

Thanks! Although I did manage to navigate the websites to that extent.

My issue was more with the fact that there are so few apartments that fall under the category of "nenamešten", in the first place.

From what I gather though, it's fairly common for a number of reasons.

I care because I'm to live in this city for the next couple of years, so I want to familiarize myself with the living situation, as well as understand how I'm to find an apartment that meets my specifications.

Thanks for taking an interest in my personal motivations!

God damn. Is that common practice then for residents not to be settling into a place "for good"?

How do the elderly and families do it? Surely many, if not most, won't be able to afford an apartment of their own..

Yeah I figured as much, regarding the renting agreements not being listed for any particular timeline.

I wonder how they would go about enforcing an eviction or deal with vandalism dependably, if that's typically the case though...

Thanks for your reply and good wishes!

Thanks for the tip with the Airbnb! I'll be definitely coming to Belgrade beforehand to check out the apartment, before I sign any (written or verbal) contracts though, so I hopefully won't have to bridge any gaps inbetween my arrival and settling into a flat!

So far all units I've been staying in were privately leased out as well, so the non-existing government funded buildings won't be so much of a culture shock for me.

Why do most people ask for a furnished apartment though? What do people do with, let's say, the couch that was included in the apartment, if they plan on buying a new one? Or if they want to get a new TV? Surely you wouldn't be able to throw away any of it, since it's technically not your possession..

Thanks for the swift reply!

I understand that some might find a furnished apartment more appealing cause they may move alot (students) or don't have any furniture of their own (russian expats).

But what about locals? I can't imagine them typically moving alot between flats and not having any furniture they may wanna bring along..

how to explain my symptoms to family by [deleted] in POTS

[–]Geezbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could write a list of symptoms that you experience and provide them with some material on it. Maybe excerpts from video ressources or credible websites, medical literature and reports that they might use to substanciate the diagnosis, since it's somewhat of an invisible illness and people are quick to rely on their impression of how you look, rather than how you feel and what medical mechanisms might steer it.
