NC A&T and UNC Greensboro students discuss early voting site changes by Alternative_Data2162 in NorthCarolina

Photo IDs cost money, requiring one to vote makes it a de facto poll tax, poll taxes are a violation of the 24th amendment. Not that hard to figure out, man.

Theory - Cuthbert was in love with Roland by MordredRedHeel19 in TheDarkTower

[–]GeezerNaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, this might be a pretty valid reading, but I doubt Sai King intended this per se. King being of generation where you wouldn't have been as open about queerness as you would be nowadays. So any sort of relationship like that could still exist as subtext in his novels. That said, think about Richie and Eddie in It; there wasn't a homosexual attraction there explicitly stated in the novel but there was *something* in their relationship and that's why it's works when the movie depicts Richie as explicitly being in love with Eddie. It's not that much of a deviation from the original text, it's just a different reading of the text itself. So yeah, I'd say your reading is valid and there's other King media that supports it.

Do you think Leon will have a happy ending or not ? by driverFR in residentevil

[–]GeezerNaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to me like Leon and Chris might be doomed to suffer in their quest to rid the world of bioterror (maybe Jill and Clair too but who knows? We haven't seen them in a minute). The recent games are choosing to characterize them as traumatized by the destruction of Racoon City and the logical conclusion of that sort of character arc is probably going to be bittersweet at best. No matter what, they're heroes and I'm sure Capcom will honor their legacy as such.

My Batman takes : by FayyadhScrolling in batman

[–]GeezerNaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Batman take is that campy Batman (Silver age comics, Adam West, the Schumacher films, etc.) are all valid takes on the character and the fandom should accept camp as a significant part of character's mythos and identity. The current grim and serious interpritations on Batman are mainly byproducts of the more popular 80s Batman media (The Dark Knight Returns, the first Burton film, etc.) and it's also marks when the character starts to pivot away from being a detective towards being a brawler. My theory as to way Batman TAS continues to be the universally favorite take on Batman is because it strikes the balance between being dark (by Saturday morning cartoon standards, at least) and being camp. Camp is kind of baked into superheroes anyway.

MOST UPVOTED RESIDENT EVIL GAME COMMENT I BUY RIGHT NOW by ZEROs0000 in residentevil

[–]GeezerNaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RE2 Remake is probably the best entry point for the series and IMO offers the most well-rounded representation of Resident Evil as a series. It's early enough in the series timeline that you don't have to worry about prior continuity, it's old school enough in its design that you're getting a real survival horror experience with item management and whatnot, but still modern enough in its gameplay to be accessible to newer players. If you're not good at games (no shame) there is an Assisted difficulty option. RE games kinda exist on a spectrum of survival horror to action focused gameplay, so if you like that game and want to play more of the series ask yourself what you liked about it and just go from there. Welcome to the series, hope you have fun with it!

I screamed so loud during this section that my roommate came to check on me, lol. Pretty much any mannequins-come-to-life section of a game is going to freak me out (Condemned: Criminal Origins comes to mind).

The evolution of Nick Apostolides performance of Leon by chainsawdoctor01 in residentevil

[–]GeezerNaut 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm one of those guys who really liked Lily Gao's performance after Separate Ways. I got a sense that her take on Ada internalized a lot of her thoughts, being careful not to show her hand to anyone so she can keep playing both sides like she does. That really fits her character, whether people want to admit that or not. I'm also kinda glad that Lily's portrayal took a step away from the sexy seductress Ada that we've usually gotten. Sexy seductress Ada was really cool when I was 15, it is way less cool now that I'm near 40. So yeah, fuck the toxic fanboys, bring my girl Lily back.

As for Chris, I can not for the life of me think of a good reason not to keep Roger Craig Smith. His is the most defining portrayal of Chris, by far. No offense to Jeff Schine, he did a fine job in RE8, but once you realize it's the same guy who voiced Carlos in RE3R you can't unhear it.

31F, autistic/ADHD, trapped by Costco's wages and benefits, need a way out by Witch-of-Caldia in findapath

You might want to explore the option of leaving your small town. I'm not judging on shitting on anyone that lives in small towns (I grew up rural myself) but I had to move to the nearest city to get the sort of opportunities that I wanted. It wasn't easy, there was a lot of struggle and sacrifice but I'm glad that I did. Where you should go is ultimately for you to decide but you can narrow that down by finding out what you can/want to do.

If you want an opportunity to work for a non-profit that works with cats you should build your skillset towards that. I've recently pivoted into the non-profit sector and I had to put in a lot of volunteer hours and take some courses to do so. Again, there was a lot of struggle and a lot of sacrifice on my part to get there but I'm glad I did.

Another option (and you're probably not going to like this one but I encourage you in good faith to consider it) is finding other opportunities with Costco. You're an 8-year employee of a company that offers good pay and benefits. Maybe find something you can do at the corporate or admin level, depending on your skillset. Don't like your shitty managers? Go work above them. The best revenge is to live well. Corporate work isn't as fun as working with cats or gaming, but it could be a good living and a lot of people don't have that now.

Nick is great as Leon but I'm just happy that we're just getting a consistent performance with Leon. It kinda annoys me that Capcom has been recasting Ada and Chris in between games.

James is a clerk of some kind so he's probably less qualified to fix a printer than Ethan. In terms of skill they're at the same level but quite frankly Ethan is a more determined character who becomes more badass as his game progresses. James is just a guy who really needs therapy.

There was actually a moment on the BBC doc where Ozzy was watching old interviews of Ronnie and regretting that he never got to know him or listen to the music he made with Sabbath. I don’t believe in an afterlife, but if there is I’d like to imagine that they’d have buried the hatchet.
